View Full Version : Junior diver in desperation
Hello all, could anyone please answer a silly question? Is it possible to dive without training just once as a first time experience. I have a few days left in France near Nice and had a lot of aspirations for learning to dive but the trip is not long enough and i reaaly really want to have a go !!!! (just as desperately as is this email)
Lots of thanks for help:D  :D
Just go to a dive center and do a try dive.

You'll probably be able to do a shallow try dive. No idea what it is called, but go into a shop and wave a visa card about and they'll probably take you for a very shallow potter about. Might be worth having a quick look at the UKSDMC Self Certification form (http://www.uksdmc.co.uk/main/medicalform.pdf) to check whether you have any medical conditions that preclude diving first.
If you like it, when you get back have a look for either a club or school and start training for real.

In France its a "baptême". I don't think you need a medical, but you will need a full medical for any training (CMAS 1* is the start point).
There are about 6 dive centres in Nice IIRC. Baptêmes tend to be on certain days and in the local swimming pool. I would ring first. You will need to speak a little French.
There's a list of centres here: http://www.plongeeonline.com/

Baptême? That looks and sounds a bit like like "baptism".
it would be correct in both ways then... :)

My former club in Antibes - Association Plongee d' Antibes did Baptemes most days throughout the summer. You usually need to give them a couple of days notice.
You go in the sea, off a boat, to a few meters deep, in full scuba gear and get to see lots of marine life.
They are at the end of the main public beach. Quai Nord du Port Vauban, 06600 ANTIBES
