View Full Version : Changes to diving laws in Canary Islands
In case anyone is coming out to the Canaries for their jollydays we have recently been asked for divers to carry thier certification cards at dive-sites. So don't forget your card if you want to get some diving in.
This is related to the new laws that have come into force to regulate diving here.
Also can someone tell me, cos I don't know, if BSAC divers do come and have forgotten their cards, can they accesss their certification details online?
PADI have a dive-check online, I just wondered if BSAC has something similar.
ta v much.
Hi no theres no checking system for BSAC but I might be wrong as BSAC has just had a new computer system, so this one is for Keith.
Thanks

Nope there's nothing similar for BSAC. Was discussed a while back, and general conclusion was its not worth the effort.

It was also discussed at length why BSAC cant include the diver grade
on the plastic annual membership cards.
Apparently I can have Name, type of member, Membership No, valid to,
even get to sign it on the back, but cant have a simple
OW, SPT, DL etc.

It drives me nuts. :(
So a card might have an out of date record - easily solved. Issue a corrected one.
There won't be so many, the cost might be recoverable by not using lots of envelops saying 'your membership card is enclosed'. Thankfully we see most club members, but in these days of post going missing with searching for personal info, lets not say what is inside. I assume Direct members get these too.

We did this to death Adrian and it really was a no-brainer.
Remember those NCR sets that we get at renewal time? The ones with our
diver grade on it?
So where exactly other than that database would BSAC get the Membership
card info from? That's right it's already there and it would cost nothing, YES
NOTHING to add a code or word to the card.
The spurious argument was if you did do another grade after that, what
then?
Awnser: Just take your QRB or send £12 to BSAC and get a new C-card as
now. I suspect the vast majority would just wait until the next year.

True, but then they wouldn't be able to get rid of their massive stocks of Q-cards, which I would guess is a big factor in the decision to make us all have to buy them separately. Same reason that most of the Q-cards that have been issued have had mistakes on them... got about 5 years supply printed at once. :(
