Morning

At club last night, some nice dives gone up on board st,Abbs/Farnes/Weasel bay/Beadnel.Hoping I get my sports diver only got one task to do now which is diver rescue, had a bit of a debate though last night as there were not many of our high and mighty in the club house last night ( all away diving, disgusting that going of without taking the trainees with them:) ).so we did not settle the debate ( argument). This is it. near the end of sports diver do you get your qualification after your progresion to 35 mtrs or before as it seems to be a contridiction, for example as O/D you are not allowed to exceed 20 mtrs so how do you progress to 35 mtrs if you are O/D, and then again how do you qualify as S/D if you have not been to 35 mtrs:confused: .

Cheers Mark.

Extract from the Instructor Manual.

Depth Experience
Newly qualified Sports Divers, wishing to increase their depth experience, should be encouraged to do so in a progressive manner, in increments of approximately 5m. They should be accompanied on such dives by a diver holding a minimum qualification of Dive Leader, and all such dives should be performed under the supervision of a
NQI.

The award of the Sports Diver Qualifcation occurs PRIOR to diving deeper than 20m.

Having once attained the Sports Diver Qualification experience should be built PROGRESSIVELY, this includes depth, conditions, decompression stops etc.

Hope that helps!

The old and bold within your group should be able to structure your trips away to make sure that you get your depth progression AFTER your completion of SD. With the rescue skills practicals out of the way ( I did mine last summer) you should take depth progression steadily and work your way down to 35m over the next few months/years.

My only advice would be to take the progression at your rate and dont feel as if the depths are 'ticks in boxes' - these are big steps but could hold great adventures and experiences for your future.

Good Luck and happy bubbling!!
