Anybody dived Estartit/Medes recently with BSAC Self-Certification only? My dive operator has said self-certification is unacceptable and we must have a medical valid within the past 2 years?

Hi June

Dived out in Menorca last year and never had any problems with using
the self-certification forms. Hopefully this helps?:)

Spain is one of the countries that genreally requires a medical rather than self cert, but this seems to vary in different areas.

BSAC Wiki - Medical requirements in different countries (http://bsacforum.co.uk/wiki/index.php?title=Medical_requirements)

When you find out for sure, please let us know and we'll update the encyclopaedia.
And if anyone reading this has any information other than what we have on the page linked above, please let us know, or just add it yourself - it's easy peasy to do. :)

Although surely if your dive operator says they require a medical, then you'll have to have one....

I'm afraid not, no-one has volunteered that information - yet.
Anyone can update the Wiki pages just by registering and making the appropriate changes to the page. We'll even help them with it - if they need it.

Hi all
As I've mentioned in previous threads....
It is a legal requirement to have a Medical certificate in Spain.
Under the 1997 law published in the Bolitin Offical del Estado ( there is a link on my previouse thread) and is a Decreto Ley that means that is valid in all of Spain including the Autonoumouse regigons.
We usually are able to get our local diving/doctor to fit people in at a moments notice, but best to get it done in the UK.

And also please remember that medical insurance as well as liability is a legal
requerment.
The general feel is that the Guardia Civil are taking a more active approach and are checking divers.

If anybody would like any further info I have copies on the 1969, 71, 73, 78 and 97 acts that are related to diving in Spainish waters both sea and inland.

The Medes are great I lived in Gerona for many years and used to be a favorite of mine. Lots of cavey tunnels.
Also there is a wreck called the Marmolero, coz it was carrying mable when it sank, thats a good dive to, but thts a bit further up the coast.
There is a website with all the dives I'll try and find it for you.

Safe diving
Chris
