Just wondering if its possible to pay the BSAC membership fees in instalment via direct debit?

Think this would be a great help to those of us who may have a cash flow problem.

Any one knows if this is possible? So I can join my local branch and get on with my training

In my branch we do use Standing Orders for subs into the club account. The downside is that at present HQ require their bit in one go, so we ask for it to be paid in advance on the first year, then carry over. That way we don't get stiffed.

Darn cant read the post restricted forum :(

Well I hope BSAC do this soon as tbh this is one thing holding me back.Getting the cash together in 1 hit is not easy as no doubt most people will aggree with.

I dont have a problem with the amount of money but it would be much easier for me and I am sure others if this could be done.

How do Univesity Branches do it surely some of the students have worse cash flow probs than me .

Oops, sorry about that, I had mis-read the forum as if it was in public forums.

Well as I said, it could be coming, but it will be down to indiviual branches.

If you are in full time education you get a cheaper subs (http://www.bsac.org/services/membership0502.htm), but no mag or voting. Different Uni branches are likely to have varying funding and subs, but they try to be cheaper.

One thing about costs, the subs is the cheapest bit :( and you never seem to have enough kit :( :D

If struggling to find £43, how do you find the money for gas fills, kit purchase, boat hire, travel expenses, B&B etc?

Not in favour of four collections of direct debits as this multiplies the BSAC collection fees from the bank and Admin staff time to process. As a club treasurer if I had multiple payments from members it would drive me nuts.

In fairness, the £17 annual membership fee is less than most of us spend on alcohol in one night! And usually people join at the start of the year, just after they get their loan. Never known anyone not able to dive in our club because of not being able to pay the BSAC membership fee :D

sorry not sure if i made myself clear then but as i understand it yes you can join for the 40 pound but if you want to do the training you have to pay another 100 for that.

Or have I got this arse about face (would not be the first time)and that stays in the club and doesnt go to bsac ?

It sounds like the £100 is for the club - what it might cover varies from club to club, so best ask them really.

The BSAC magazine, voting powers and 3rd party insurance all for £45.50 (unless your an instructor and then its a bit cheaper)

Anything else you pay will be club fees. Normally higher if there is a boat involved. Ours is only £25 but we don't have a boat. We do have a one off training fee that covers our training to Dive Leader.

You are better off waiting until you can pay all of it, if you join just BSAC you join BSAC direct whereas if you join through a branch you don't. Direct membership costs slightly more than through a branch. It is also more hassle for the membership secretary.

My advice would be choose the branch you want to join, go along a couple of times to meet everyone and make sure you like them (as you will be spending a lot of time with them), then when you are ready join the branch and BSAC thorugh that branch

Just wondering if its possible to pay the BSAC membership fees in instalment via direct debit?Unfortunately not. There are several reasons for this such as our annual insurance and annual membership structure.

Your diving fees are in two parts, there is the annual BSAC subscription and the annual local club subscription, normally the local club subscription is the larger of the two. We are bringing in a DD scheme for the BSAC subscription part, it's being trialed right now and will be launched very soon. Some clubs do have an installment plan by Standing Order.

Some clubs do have an installment plan by Standing Order. We do that.
The SO covers the local and BSAC parts so if you join as an experienced diver you pay one BSAC lump up front and sign up to the SO so the money is already in the kitty when the BSAC lump comes round again.

It works out as £15 a month and with shops charging up to £3.50 a hit for clean air you don't have to dive often to save a lump of that on the club's free compressor.

(edit)
£15pm = Two boats, moorings at the Marina, compressor, swimming pool in the winter, etc.

Ours is only £25 but we don't have a boat.

Ours is higher - not for a boat - but pays for swimming pool hire.
