Hi again. apparently i might actually have another medical problem - to add to my long list :( , but i can't exactly find out whether it will affect my diving or not...I have been continually tired recently, to the point where i am coming into work and going to bed, just so i can get out of bed and go to work again in the morning! I have spoken to Dr Wilmshurst as i was concerned it might be my heart kicking off again, but he's looking at other causes, and has sent me for a blood test to check out my thyroid.

Again i'm kinda hoping i am hypothyroid as at least thats something i can do something about! If i'm not then we have to go looking at the heart thing again... I'm still waiting for the results of the blood test (takes a week apparently! we do it on the machine at work in about an hour!). ;)

At the moment i've taken myself out of the water till i feel a little better as i feel i'm too tired to cope with diving, the trouble is not diving brings me down mentally as well as physically! so guys and gals, does hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid) affect your diving and how? have checked out DAN and UKSDMC but there doesn't seem to be much about hypothyroidism...

I am due to go on my first ever diving holiday to Dahab at the beginning of july and am a bit worried from some of the stuff i've seen online...i know i know don't believe everything you see on the web...

I surrer from an underactive thyroid gland, diagnosed quite by accident on a routine blood test, I am on thyroxine tablets 150mg a day and have no problems with my diving, I asked my doctor and he could think of no problems either, as all the tablets are doing is boosting something my thyroid gland should produce naturally.

I've been diving whilst under the influence of Thyroxine for around 10 years - hasn't affected me yet (although some might disagree!) - you'll feel much better on the tablets than without them if you are Hypothyroid - also means you get free prescriptions for life ;)
