Did four dives at the Farnes over two days no problems with anything, saw octopus, lobsters, crab, urchins and much more max depth 20 mtrs vis superb felt totaly relaxed but with respect to the sea, bit cold but did not notice it too much because of the excitment cant wait for next dive now I think this diving has now got hold of me now. I am looking to book a holiday now in Sharm el something I have heard its the place to go just got to convince the wife that I wont dive much and that its not the main reason I want to go there has anyone got any advice ? has anyone been ?
Thanks for all the advice that you all gave on the subject of my Oban disapointment I know now it was just a glitch

well done. I'm glad that you enjoyed yourself.
It's all downhill from here, severe wallet haemorhage!!! :)
Egypt is great. Sharm el Sheikh is just the thing. Try to get Sports Diver under your belt before you go (if you haven't already). Best to go with a group of friends, otherwise you might find yourself playing follow the leader with a bunch of real 'tourists'!
We're going to Hurghada in October, about 20 of us so far. Many will be Egypt novices having only qualified as Ocean Diver during the last 6 mnths. Most if not all will be Sports Diver by the time we go. Going to be a hoot.

Very glad to hear it Mark. Keep up the good work! I'm sure you'll enjoy the red sea, but don't get too tempted away from UK diving...
cheers,
Ben

Oban was brilliant Richie it was a bit of spook I got there while diving the wreck of the Theasis. If you are going up there the Rhonda is exceptional it lays on an incline the bow is at about 6 mtrs and the stern is about 50 mtrs there can be a strong current so I think it has to be dived at slack water, I cant remember the name of the island where it is located but im sure someone will know. also the Theasis was well worth doing while I lasted some of our more experienced guys and girls did a swim through. And while on land the views are spectacular. If you do go have a good time.

Glitch... Not so sure. There has been a general comment about the Farnes over the last few years that the Farne Islands are getting more and more lifeless. I know a lot folk that cant be bothered to go up there any more at Easter. Maybe the life is back this year. I hope so.

Hi Guys
Anyone who thinks there is little life around the Farnes have obviously been diving in the wrong areas. There is as much marine life around the islands as there was 30 years ago, but like most places, you need to know where to dive. Charter boats will noramally take you to the same places, usually because the skippers are not divers and they haven't a clue what it's like underwater. If the sea is a bit 'lumpy', the charter boats will moor up in some of the worst spots, with little or no life, so long as everyone gets into the water and they still get paid.
Cheers Ron
