I got myself a Vytec and like most male i did not follow RTFM and therefore i am now in need of help.
I connected the vytec to the computer before i installed the Suunto USB driver and now it does not connect to the computer / Dive manager. The dive manager does not find the Vytec on COm 1 and com 6.

When finally installing the USB driver it said not to connect the computer untill after the driver is installed, that message was a bit late but at least it said that now i have to do it manually.

Anyone has an idea how? Please if you stoped laughing and feel like helping (i really hope soneone does) make it step by step as i am not very computer savew. Well see the abouve.

many thanks

Khaled

Assuming XP...

Disconnect everything Suunto from the PC
Right click on My Computer, select properties
Select Hardware tab.
Select Device Manager
Look through the list of devices and delete everything that says Suunto
Reboot
RTFM
Start again

If you're trying to get it to work through a USB interface, then it may not be particularly simple. If the suggestion above doesn't work, then the best bet is to disable / remove pretty much everything on your computer that uses a COM port. If you've got bluetooth or infrared ports for example, try it with those turned off. Otherwise, you generally need a lot of time and effort to get it working, in my experience.

Actually I found getting it to work on my PC easy despite doing everything in the wrong order (hence how I know how to fix it).

I believe using a serial to USB adapter is a lot more grief but the proper USB lead is almost plug and play (as it should be)

Ahhh, i thought the Suunto USB interface was actually just a USB->serial adapter built into the case. I think i've heard that somewhere before from people having trouble getting it to work, but not 100% sure. Maybe you were just lucky?

Ok deleted the Suunto reference in the USB & Port section. And deleted the whole Dive manager pogram. Rebooted the computer reinstalled the dive manager 2.3 (from the web) installed the USB driver from the web.
Seledted TR - PC mode connected the USB cable to DC then to Laptop.
Pop up message that new hard ware is connected comes up.
First for the SUunto Sprot devise then for the SUunto USB Driver.

Open the dive manager, under dive computer press the litter icon to down load. The system is searching for devise on com 1, 3, 6 then after about 40 sec a new littel window opens which says devise not found.

Any idea how to get around this?

Thanks

Thanks will give that a try.

You could also try the following (look at the last part dealing with not found).

Also remember if you are using XP you can use system restore to go back to before you loaded the software, and then start from scratch, I have used this to good effect in the past.

Dive Manager 2 Installation

Question
How do I install the Dive Manager 2 software correctly?

Answer
You can install the Dive Manager 2 as follows:

Dive Manager 2 Installation - USB

DO NOT CONNECT THE USB INTERFACE BEFORE INSTALLATION OF THE SOFTWARE AND DRIVERS.

Insert the CD in to the CD ROM drive and select INSTALL SUUNTO DIVE MANAGER.

When this is complete return to the CD autostart screen and select INSTALL USB DRIVERS.

It is advisable to frequently check www.suunto.com for software updates as the CD version you have may not be the latest version. The updates can be found under CUSTOMER SERVICE – DOWNLOAD CENTRE then select the SOFTWARE option for your dive computer. When you start the Dive Manager software it will tell you which version you have. It is advisable to do this even if you have only just purchased the interface as later version include bug removal and improved features.

When this is completed plug in the USB interface to a free USB port.

Open the Dive Manager 2 software, create a user then log in.

Attach your dive computer to the interface and ensure it is in it’s data transfer mode (for D9 this is not necessary, for Vyper, Cobra, Vytec ensure when in TR-PC mode that QUIT is shown next to mode button).

Select the appropriate dive computer from the pull down list in the DIVE COMPUTER section on the left side of the screen.

Click the connect to dive computer button on the left side of the screen in the DIVE COMPUTER section. If you have any other computer than D9 you will need to click the TRANSFER button in the next window that appears.

The information from the dive computer should now be downloaded.

If the dive computer is not found you should check that the USB interface has been installed properly. To do this check your Windows Device Manager via:

START / SETTINGS / CONTROL PANEL / SYSTEM / DEVICE MANAGER

With XP you might need to do:

START / SETTINGS / CONTROL PANEL / SYSTEM. Then click the HARDWARE tab and then DEVICE MANAGER.

OR

Right click on MY COMPUTER and select MANAGER . Then choose DEVICE MANAGER.

With the interface plugged in, scroll down the list to

PORTS (COM&LPT). If correctly installed you should see SUUNTO USB SERIAL PORT on one of the COM ports. Make a note of this COM number and go back to the Dive Manager software and manually change the COM port number under the DIVE COMPUTER SETTINGS at the bottom of the screen ( this can be viewed by clicking the connect button again if it is not visible)

If the interface is not installed correctly you should reinstall the USB driver software.
