I'm about to start my first season as a nitrox diver. Won't be doing anything too ambitious. Mainly Dorset wrecks < 35m. i would appreciate some advice on which analyser you would suggest i buy. Thanks, John

I would get the Analox O2EII. I have had one for several years and its very easy to use. I've tried others, mainly in dive shops and while some are cheaper none are easier to use.

Analox O2EII (http://www.analox.net/site/content_o2e2.php). Cheap and effective, regularly rated easiest to use by students when I teach nitrox courses. Diver recently tested a load of analysers and they said this was easiest but marked it down because of its over sensitive adjuster knob (which it is) but this is not an issue as you get used to it very fast

Get the Oxyspy, one button, no movable items and very easy use.

Considering exchange rate to the UK i paid just under 200£ not sure if that is expensive. The Oxyspy was as well recomended either by Dive or Diver magazine not sure which one run the comparison test.

I have an Analox too. I use an Oxyspy at the club. Both produce similar results, as you would expect. I went for the Analox as it is smaller - travelling considered.

Many thanks to all of you for taking the trouble to assist me. I'll check out both the models recommended. Cheers, John

If you get a nitrox instructor to buy an analox analyser for you, I beleive they get a discount.

Obviously you should then give them the cash :)

Analox give an instructor discount for any instructor not just one with a nitrox ticket

This may be changing. I just enquired a couple of weeks back as I have a bunch of students from two courses wanting analysers (some of who are CIs or OWIs), and analox were asking for faxed proof of nitrox instructor ticket. This was never asked for before, all they previously wanted was a number. Personal instructor purchases are limited to single units.

analox - its reasonably priced, small, easy to use, and robust. I've had one since the birmingham dive show 2005, and its great - exactly what i wanted.

To be honest what impressed me was the way the analox guy treated the one on the stall at the dive show, he threw it on the ground, kicked it, and it still continued reading exactly the same. Apparently they also float but i haven't got around to testing this yet! He told me to get the sellers of the other analysers to do the same! He also told me not to buy it from them, but to buy it from the stall with the cheapest deal which was "X", and it actually was!

Realistically its entirely possible that any item of dive kit could be dropped, or kicked especially while RIB diving, but my analyser has survived everything i've thrown at it so far - i'm very happy and would recommend it unreservedly!
