Im info gathering for a planned liveaboard to do the sound of mull and was wondering if anybody could recommend oban liveaboards for the summer. Ideally accomodation for 12.

- anybody heard of the Dundarg or Kylebhan, are they still operating as dive boats?

thanks
Richie

you should act sharpish; organised one for my club last year for this summer; the popular ones are probably already booked up; Gemini Storm have a new boat which is going to be a converted Severn class lifeboat thats who I am going with

Northern Lights (Elizabeth G; Hjalmar Bjorge) also get good write ups but I think they are now booking for 2007 unless you want to go very late into the year

Im looking at 2007. Gemini Storm looks good but is just the 10 berth.

I went on the old Gemini Storm and the standards were first class, good skipper, food, accomodation. So if you can get away with it I would recommend it

Hello Richie,

Here you go try this link it has the basic information on the Dundarg. John runs a first class WARM & DRY boat, good food and plenty of it, be quick as it books up very quick.

I would concur. I've always been lucky with the Sound of Mull liveaboards. I used to dive off The Harry Slater, which was a happy small boat. Dinner time used to take hours because we were all laughing so much. Unfortunately diving from the Harry Slater ended rather tragically when the skipper passed away. So when we were due to head north again, it was a terrible dilema, who to dive with? Then I heard about heard Loyal Mediator / Gemini Storm.

I've now dived off Loyal Mediator / Gemini Storm I think three or four times. Diving with George Mair is a rare treat and something that I look forward to immensely. Probably one of the more enticing things about going on George’s boat is that you never know just quite where you are going to end up. I’ve had the pleasure of diving from Loyal Mediator/Gemini Storm on a few occasions, and never once been disappointed, even when the weather hasn’t been that favourable. This is because he really does his best to accommodate divers wishes and abilities whilst considering what the weather and the tides are doing/will allow. He's a commercial diver, so he does understand what divers want, not all skippers can dive. His boat is always immaculate and warm. Food wise, he serves good hot well cooked tasty grub, and there is always plenty of it.

George has dropped us on some storming sites that are not the norm in that area. Last year we dived a wow of a wall on Lewis. This is one site that I definitely want to redive in the future, the wonder and splendour of that wall is something I want to experience again. This is a site that George had found and explored, it's not in any book as far as I am aware.

So although the new Gemini Storm is going to be a 10 berth boat, I'd be really tempted to go with it for several reasons. One of which is that you can almost gurantee someone is going to drop off out of a trip at the last minute. HTH.

Have a fantastic time!

Had a not so good experience with John on the Dundarg one year Not really Johns fault and he did his utmost to put thing right. I will still use John but only my second choice.
Jimmy on the Kylebhan is a good skipper one of the first skippers to take divers out but the boat is in need of some good money spending on it. However it is cheap and cheerful.

My first choice is Bob on the Gaelic Rose. Excellent boat Excellent skipper with a wicked dry sense of humor and very helpful Disadvantage he books up quickly
