My new regulator bag has arrived to day and i was wondering how to pack it.
Do i need to put in 1st stage, gauge, octopus and hoses all in together or do i unscrew them all. I have got them all in i just dont want to break them or damage them so i was wondering if anybody had any help or tips for me or the best way to pack it.

Thanks in advance James :D :D :D

Hi James.

No need to unscrew the hoses. I put them into a circle. Put 1st stage at 12 o clock the SPG Inflator and suite inflator go clockwise. Regs primary and Oct go anti clockwise. This puts them in to a circle which fits into the bag, you can them put something in the middle to cut down on bags.

Have fun.

As Tim says, put them in a circle. You'll find a specific arrangement that suits your regs pretty quickly. All my regs have packed slightly differently (I've had Poseidon, Scubapro and Apeks)

Just put them in however they'll fit really - as already mentioned, there's no way that will work for every type of reg, its just a case of see how well it'll go. All i'd suggest is to keep the hoses in as gentle a curve as possible to minimise stress - generally for me that means the first stage and hoses are circling around the outside of the bag, and the regs just bend in and fill the gap in the middle.

Definitely no need to take them apart - if nothing else you'll probably do more damage that way as you repeatedly screw in / unscrew the hoses, and makes it easier to get stuff inside the reg that you don't want in there (dirt, dust, general muck...)

...and wear the threads and the o-rings - not to mention risking getting hairs, dirt, muck across the o-ring just before you put it together again.

So...you'd need to clean and re-grease every o-ring immediately prior to re-assembly (what a pain in the a**e!)

Not to mention the very real risk of not quite getting it right and then having a o-ring blow on you at exactly the wrong time! (once everything is seated correctly and working...don't mess with it!)

Do your very best not to take kit apart - unless absolutely necessary!

When the reg is put away clean and dry (with a dust cap in place) it is a sealed unit...so no chance of contamination/condensation inside it etc

(for exactly the same reasons - never wash your regulator except when it is attached to a cylinder and under pressure. A reg underwater without pressure allows water into it's workings...and that is NOT good!)

If you open all the holes in it ...you are just asking for a problem to get in there...and once it's in it will work away and wear it out!
