Let's get a concensus...

I suspect they won't do much for us but I'd rather give an upset party the option to click me a red and storm off than write an abusive reply just because I dissed their pet hobby horse.

They are a pointless toy but you know how much I love pointless toys. I have a house full.

Yep, I agree, a green and red system seems to keep trolls down and makes people more likely to take time to contribute!

As per the others - leave them on

And...

What are the modification options?

I'm with the leave them on camp.

Can't comment on the mods - have no idea what you can do.

I would comment that it is a nice feature of "another site" that you can see who gave you the blobs and read the comments on why you got one. Can this be turned on here?

I would agree that it pretty quickly identifies the one time post troublemakers.

Also - could the taglines for the reputation value be changed to something more diving related for a chuckle?

Cheers,
Tristan

Well chaps you finally got me on these forums. I've only ever submitted one post in the past, not because I am not interested, but like many others I feel the threads go on a bit. Anyway, I shall not digress at the risk of starting a thread.

Anyway, I have a question. I am not that good with IT I'm afraid, as I hate to be a slave to the PC in the corner of the room. I'm convinced they will all simultaneously sprout legs one day, charge out into the street and go on strike, before taking us all on. Ooops, sorry must be the medication....

So can someone tell me what an Avatar is? I think its an image next to ones name, but not sure. And what is a greenie? I voted to keep them, and then thought well i should really know what they are first..?

Sorry I think its an age thing.

I am a big fan of BSAC, despite some areas for improvement. But I think this newer forum idea and format is a huge step forward and I think all ivolved need a big pat on the back.

all the best, Gp.

Ahah! I have just found the control panel, and now know what an Avatar is.

Green and red blobs may be assigned to you using the 'scales of justice' icon on the top right of each post. They represent a positive or negative response to you.

Some people get a lot of green if they are seen to be helpful or amusing. Likewise someone joing just to place an advert is likely to get a poor 'red' reputation.

You may see where your reputation came from in you control panel. A representation of your reputation will be on the right hand side of your posts. You will see that someone has been playing with the system behind the scens to have a large amouth of red and green to a couple of us.

The system may also use a 'power' system with the reputation awards. Someone with more reputation has more power to award reputation. Similarly someone with few posts (setting dependant) may not be able to award reputation, resulting in a gray blob in your control panel.

Hope this helps,

Adrian

The concensus would seem to be keep them, but we could probably do with tweaking the settings a bit. I've closed the poll.

Gave a reddie to Keith's other user - 'member'.
After that I tried to give him a greenie on another post and got the message:

"You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to Member again".

I'm impressed, I didn't expect it to blob me for trying to do it more than once to the same person.
At least nobody will be able to blacken someone else's reputation needlessly.

It keeps the 'Dark Side of the Force' at bay.

"Like this forum, I do".
