Ok, Im fairly technologically challenged.

I have a PSP and have ripped some MPEG-4 files to watch on it. Most of them are conversions from short video clips of dives that have been stuck together to make a short film.

The annoying thing is that now I've created the MPEG-4 where do I put it on the memory card so the PSP can recognise it has a video to watch. I've tried just on the card, in the PSP folder and within folders in the PSP folder and it does not seem to work.

I know that to listen to music you have to create a music folder but creating a video folder doesn't help.

Has anyone any experience of this? Can you give me a step by step example?

Thanks in advance.

Do you need to use mod chips? Most Games consoles have specific encryption and encoding to prevent you just sticking any old ripped or copied materials in.

Take a look at this site see if it help?

I don't think so as all the instructions from Sony just say that so long as I have an MPEG-4 recorded at the correct bit rate it should be playable on the PSP, once its placed on the memory stick. However, thats a useful site you have given me that I haven't seen before so I'll have a good look around.

I hope it doesn't need chipping as one of the reasons I bought this was to load up my own videos and watch them whilst I am on a trip, or dare I say, weathered off.

Have a look at this web site, though you will probably only need to do the last bit with the correct naming as you already have MP4 files.

Good luck

its mpeg4 in a special format - you can either by a retail conversion package (www.play.com sell one) or you can google and pick up one of the free applications such as PSP Video Manager or PSP Video 9...

Managed to sort it all out last night.

ImTOO dvd does a really good job of creating PSP mpeg4 and then it was a case of using a set format for the file name, i.e M4Vxxxxx.mp4 the x's have to be numbers and then the PSP will recognise it is an mp4 file. Anything different to this and it just assumes it is data that can't be read.

Thanks for the help and links.

My favorite is yasa psp video converter (http://www.yasasoft.com/pspvideoconverter/). It is much quick and supports converting most popular videos to psp video. It works great to me so far.
