Let's get a concensus.

I think we don't need them. What do they add? It's not as if someone with a lot of posts means they have all been useful :D

Exactly.
A BSAC grade on the other hand would be ok.
good point but looks like it will be accepting non-BSAC divers also on the general forums
Other vb forums have user definable user title or default; seen it where this only becomes 'open' after a set number of posts to prevent trolls and spammers setting something inappropriate without being active members

I am not sure if having a BSAC grade would really add much either. I wonder if an OD with something useful to say would be put off in a forum with comments from AD/instructors.
Maybe have it as a user option and the option can include not having one!

Why not just set them all to say 'Diver'?
That way everyone is reminded that we're all just divers, regardless of qualification or where we learned to dive.
:)

I'm with that.

I would have to officially veto that :( These forums are for new and would be divers, there is also a section for the snorkelling members of the BSAC and other snorkellers, what about the free divers?
Unfortunately the diver grade suggestion is a not ideal either -
a) What about the PADI divers?
b) If automatic it would only apply to BSAC members
c) Without Neptune (and even with unless branch MS's keep things up-to-date) then our HQ data may be out-of-date
I don't really have a preference here. Bin them if you like, let each individual decide, or how's this for a practical and doable solution -
1. Keep it simple. Have a single level of 'Forum Member'
plus...
2. If you're a BSAC member (as verified by our automatic system) then we replace that with "BSAC Member".
Just an idea - we're open to suggestions here!

On YD, it initially states "New Member"
after you've been on a while you can ask a moderator/admin to change it for a personal one, or in my case one of the mods took it upon themselves to put a witty and apt description along side my DANCING avatar
I think that would also work well on here, or have initially,
New Member 0-30 posts
Member 30+ posts
or custom one if asked
Steve
You missed the Don't care poll option.
I enjoyed being a 'member' on YD, but that's probably just my sense of humour:)
There is an option to allow everyone to set their own title. My vote goes for blank or set your own.
...and I am already getting fed up with 'amusing' animated avatars:mad:

A difficult one to call this :) The concensus seems to be keep them but 'Leave as they are now' is not popular. I've put a tweak in that I hope people approve of -
New Forum Member (0 posts)
Forum Member (10 posts)
Established Forum Member (50 posts)
Regular Forum Contributer (100 posts)
Plus registered BSAC members (as identified by the automatic system) have the ability to set their own user title via the User CP. I've closed the poll.

Sounds reasonable to me, although I voted against losing them (I think?)
Hmmm. The forum says I posted at 09.47, I'm sure I put my clock back...

Nice and bland. Probably the best compromise.
agree and like the fact that BSAC members can user customise via the USER CP - another little incentive to join
I see we have the same "rep" system as seen elsewhere, boy oh boy can that cause problems!

Apologise - or words to that effect :D
Ah... but you have to DEMAND it or it doesn't work ;)
However, apologies to those not familiar with old YD threads, this is clearly an "in joke"
