Sorry - no matches. Please try some different terms.
The following words are either very common, too long, or too short and were not included in your search : mapStop me using the, but, not, you etc. by all means but some short words are the key to finding things.

Nigel,
There are far too many 3 letter words, so the minimum search index word length is set to 4. However we can have a list of certain words to add. This is it at present. I have added 'MAP'. Feel free to suggest others.
IFC SDC NDO PFO TDI SDI SAA FCD VPM GUE DIR SSI TIE PIE HSE MAP

Currently rebuilding index so a test of 'map' should find this thread too David :)
[edit] Yep, finds 'map' now.
Probably ought to have BOH too. Any others so we can do this in one go?

I'm just perplexed as to where the advantage in telling people they can't search on three letter words comes from. I'm assuming from that that you have a table of words and locations precompiled rather than running the search at database level. That sounds like an awful lot of mill time for an infrequently use facility like search but I guess that a vBulletin built-in.

The index would be bigger (and slower?) if we allowed 3.
You can search for 'the' on Google, but I suspect they have the capacity for it.

Since the fora are crawled fairly regularlly by the googlebots, you can use google to find things here too. I just looked for 'AI' using these search terms:
site:http://www.bsacforum.co.uk/forums/ AI
It might be worth having a look at putting a custom 'advanced search' option under the 'Quick Actions' that constructs such a query and fires it off to google. Or possibly just linking to google with that search criterea?

Hmm, good idea Ben...
Often, searching for BO* will pick up BOH etc.
It works in google anyway. But not here. But it does on some other fora. Damn.

They were originally created by the members of the forums a few years ago in response to a post started by TerryH (yes it was you Terry) :D
After quite a few suggestions I made them up into a list and placed them on to the Dive Instruct website, there's also a page of Dive organisations and netiquette terms and lots more, even diving hand signals. These pages get a lot of hits, so someone is reading them.
We nicked this list for the BSAC Wiki.
And VVDS is what they used to call a drysuit, it is pretty accurate in it's description. It's even in an old BSAC Dive Manual (dated 1978) that I have here with a picture of a VVDS complete with it's own small dedicated inflation bottle. They had to have one as RN clearance divers didn't have any inflation method from their Closed Circuit Oxygen rebreathers.
I don't think any of these abbreviations are made up though. Not by me anyway.

Swaggers in with chest puffed out, picks up your (puny) gauntlet.... and runs off to hide behind that rock over there.
If you dare to sue, I shan't hesitate to apologise. :D

In which case there's too many abbreviations out there and we should all learn to type full words... IMO obviously! ;) LOL!

Hmm whole new meanings to T.I.T which is exactly what I feel when I cant understand a thing that is being written.
You can search for 3 letter terms if you put an asterisk after them, ie:
VR3 - too short
VR3* - list of search results.
Have tried the*, but*, cat*, dog* and they all work.
