Hi, I'm taking my mum diving in spain this july and need to know what thickness wetsuit would be best. Any ideas?
We're heading to around Malaga/Neja/Torrox.....has anyone been diving there and/or have any tips or places/dive centres to avoid?
Cheers Peeps
Ben
I spent an hour in the water at Gibraltar today using a 5mm wetsuit.
Gibraltar water is generally colder than the area you are planning to visit but has more interesting divesites.

Hi Sven
I dive at Cabo de Palos near Cartagena , at the mo' water temp is about 15 deg , by the time you are there it should be up to 19/21deg or higher. Sorry don't know any dive schools down that end.

Similar question but to ChrisA.
I'm planning to dive from Cabo de Palos at Easter - around 9th April.
What suit would you suggest?
Also any views/comments on the various diving organisations there?
Thanks,
Rob

Steve
When I was in Sharm in mid Feb, I met a couple who had been out there running IDCs at Emperor (we were diving with Emperor). We were put in a group with them quite often and found them to be really nice people and excellent divers. Mike runs a diving school business on the Costa Blanca from various locations, mostly the sites are a little way south of Torrevieja and we had lots of chats about the diving there. We used to own a villa in Torrevieja so are pretty familiar with the area. I would definitely look them up next time I was in Torrevieja. He's a good guy, sound as a pound and of course speaks English.
Try giving them a ring or a post, I'm sure he'd give you a steer.

If you would like to get an indication of the current surface sea temperature anywhere in the world you can use
Oceanweather Link (http://www.oceanweather.com/data/)
I know that doesn't give you the likely temps in July but it might help closer to the time, or just be of interest.

I'm on the Costa Blanca, so north of Costa del Sol, and colder! Water is about 15-16 degrees now, I'm in a 5mm wetsuit with 5mm shorty over the top. By July it should be a comfortable 24-25 degrees in the water; I'd be wearing a 5mm wetsuit then, and glad to get in the water to cool off.

SPAINS WATER TEMP OFF CABO DE PALOS AND THE ISLAS HORMIGAS MARINE PARK......
WINTER TIME LOW OF 12 OC HIGH OF 15 OC
SPRING TIME LOW OF 15 OC HIGH OF 19 OC
SUMMER TIME LOW OF 21 OC HIGH OF 25 OC
AUTUMN TIME LOW OF 21 OC HIGH OF 24 OC
IN GENERAL ITS BEST TO USE A SEMI DRY SUIT IF DIVING FROM THE BOAT AS YOU CAN SOMETIMES GET THERMOCLINES, SHORE DIVES CAN BE DONE IN SUMMER COMFORTABLY WITH A 5MM
