HELP Have I just made an expensive mistake?
I have just purchased an Alpha Typhoon dry suit off the internet. It was sold as a diving/sailing suit. Without looking too closely I made a few bids and won the suit. It does not have any form of inflation or dump valve. Would it be worth getting these added for diving? I would also need to change the feet as the material used is not suitable for walking on stones etc.

Awwwww Andy
Sounds like you bought a suit for kayaking and them sort of water sports. If that is the case i suggest you dont spend more on it and try and resell? I am sure I noticed a thread on this site somewhere about diving equipment or it might be on YD. Might be useful to post a question regarding which suit/suits people are using. Expect lots of different replies though.

Andy,
You may well have made a mistake. However depending on exactly what you have 'won', you could take it to a dive shop that repairs suits and see if there is anything that can be done. It way well not even fit you, so you may well be putting it back on ebay.

Divers Warehouse will fit a cuff dump and an inlet valve from £35.
If the suit fits well, if the zip's in good nick, if the seals are sound then go you. You've maybe got a bargin.
On the other hand if you can't touch your toes in it, then cut your losses and put it back on ebay.
Suit fits great so I'll investigate costs
Andy by the sounds of it you could be spending another £100 on this suit, new boots, dump valve and suit inflation :(
Have you contacted the seller and told him you are unhappy, did they have a returns policy?
I would consider putting it back on aBay and getting some money back on it.
According to this site, the Alpha Typhoon is only a surface suit.

Hi Andy,
You don't say it you have an undersuit with your purchase. You will need one to keep the North Sea chills at bay.
Another expence.

Re-sell it and save yourself the grief of making it into somthing it was never intended for. Good money after bad and all that.

It is described as 'breathable' (a la gore-tex)
They don't work underwater - they won't be 'air tight' from the inside and the 'waterproofing' only works up to a certain pressure.
Sell it on, a yachty or kayaker will probably love it.

Andy
What type of drysuit you looking for? I have been diving now for 3 years that isnt long but i got into it and got a job @ Northern Diver, i could help you purchase a new suit if thats what your heart is set on just drop me reply
Hi.
If it is a membrane suit and you have room for an under suit, keep it, there is no big deal to put in inflation and dump valves, if you are half handy with a pair scissors you can do it yourself.
After all when the first dry suits from Typhoon appeared on the scene these only had inflation , and no dump valves, and no feet in just ankle seals in case you inverted and killed yourself.:D
Bloody L just seen the date of the last posting it will have cobwebs in it by now.

Hi Andy, I would be a little concerned using this underwater,. as it is"breathable" As to the boots - you can use the built in ones, just wear wellies over the top(and cut them down a bit to suit) - thats what the new ones will be like anyway! Fitting a dump and inflator aren't to bad, but do consider all your options before spending any more on it. You can get reasonable dry-suit packages now from £300.
