I was skiing with Ian Hanness ,one of the support divers for this attempt a couple of weeks ago, he was saying that even though he's blind his kit checks and dive skills he has adapted to put some sighted divers to shame.

It's good of him to show that you can dive even without sight.
It very much the case in Ullswater in the English Lake District after heavy prolonged rainfall.

As ChrisA mentions appropriately - and this is in my own opinion, because I admit to the odd slip up too. When I sometimes and maybe because we take it too much for granted, given all the diving achieved each week, that we can on occasion become a little complacent on full checks prior to an odd dive when doing what is supposed to be a thorough check.
I feel it comes about because we are checking our own gear so carefully and then when kitting up ourselves, we are checking what we believe is everything attached to ourselves, that we spend less time actually looking and checking each others gear. I feel this comes down to the fact that I know my buddy is a darn good diver and he feels likewise about me - we then have the situation where both become very slightly complacent in our cross checks.

Otherwise how else do the following silly things happen:-
I admit, I was once so excited to do a dive that I forgot to put the weight belt on  - consequently I didn't get too far. Q) how did my buddy miss that one?? - how did I ??
Another Buddy forgot to zip up his fly zipper and got quite a chilly thrill up in the Shetlands. :D - Q) How did we miss that one ??

It's when you are able to talk freely about this mishaps that we can then set about ensuring that they do not happen again.

Watch them fly zips here in Cumbria because the season may be august but the water is at zero c in Cumbria's lakes. (well it's not really, but I think you'll appreciate my point  ). :)
