Hello.:)
My name is Shuzy, live in Japan.
I start diving from 17 years old, and have been continuing for 30 years or more.
I am a current member of BSAC Japan OW Instructor though I am not an occupation diver.
BSAC is a wonderful club.
I wanted to deepen the exchange about Diving information with you of
the home country of BSAC, and I pluck up and write this message by all means.
I will make an effort though I am not good at English.
Regards

Hi Suzi,

Thank you for making the effort to post on this forum.

While I do not live the home country of the BSAC, I am one of approximately 200 BSAC members living in Australia who are either members of the 5 Australian branches or the special HQ branch which is known as 'BSAC Direct'.

As a BSAC member, I would be interested to reading future posts about BSAC & other diving activities from you and others in your part of the world.

I would be also interested to reading future posts about BSAC & other diving activities all over the world.

Hi and welcome,

I've ventured onto the BSAC Japan site a few times and I've meet Shunichi Hosokawa on more than one occasion.

I look forward to hearing your experiences and how the two countries dive together.

Hi Edward-san

Thanks for reply.
I've only talk to Hosokawa-san on the phone about how to buy the Instructor clothing from the Mother website. The BSAC Japan did not have any Instructor clothing before I bought. Now we have same kind of clothing but out of stock in eary stage.

Hello Shuzy-san,

Chuckle, I suspect that Chris-san totally exhausted his Japanese with his welcoming message (I know him) but at least he tried - something that I can't say, for example, of the likes of me. :)

Like others I welcome your appearance here, we need to learn more about diving in Japan as well as the diving that Japanese divers really do. I've only seen them in "tourist traps", which include Chuuk (Truk) lagoon where they all seemingly are led by the hand. I'm quite sure that that is not the real picture for Japanese divers.

Hi Suzi

Diving is diving whether it be BSAC or PADI :) . We attempt to be all inclusive in the travel club. We are interested in any reports you have. We currently have nothing in the 'Japan BSAC where to dive' section http://www.bsac.com/findit.asp?cat=divelocations&view=map&section=1510&itemTitle=BSAC+Travel+Helps+You+Plan+Your+Next+Div e+Trip+%2D+Surf+Before+You+Dive%21

If you can work on a new Japan page there then pass any reports from whatever source that would be great. Many divers here maybe interested in what Japan has to off - diving and holdiday wise.

Best wishes

It would be good to dive in Japan on my next visit.

Hi, Suzi!

I went to Japan for two weeks in August 2000 to do a presentation at a conference in Kobe and to spend some time in Kyoto, visiting the sights. I have very happy memories of my visit, although I didn't do any diving or snorkelling while I was there.

I love Japanese diving gear and I own two pairs of Japanese-made Gull Mew full-foot fins, one solid black and one solid white, which are unashamedly traditional all-rubber fins, just like the ones I snorkelled with back in the early 1960s.

I admire the way Japan continues making gear the way it's always been made (if it ain't broke, why fix it?) and that Japanese gear manufacturers haven't jumped on to the plastics bandwagon like most European manufacturers seem to have done.

Hi Suzi-san

I have begun a UK BSAC Japan page in our 'where to dive' forum here: http://www.bsac.com/divelocations.asp?itemid=10337&itemTitle=Japan&section=1235&sectionTitle=Far+East&cat=&new=

Just a beginning as it just has a map there at the moment. If anyone can add up to date info on the country and diving to add to it I would be grateful.

Japan has its own BSAC Japan organisation. BSAC Japan was founded in 1987 with its headquarters in Osaka and has since expanded with training centres and members throughout Japan. Currently BSAC Japan has some 115 training centres employing more than 800 instructors. During its 21 year history BSAC Japan has trained over 120,000 divers. http://www.bsac.jp/

Hi Eddie Clamp-san, Vidiotdave-san and DRW-san.
What a great and gentle forum, BSAC Forums.
I want to say thank you but not explain in English so .....

Clamp-san, Thanks for introduce BSAC Japan in the mother site.
I know it's japanese BSAC site and I am one of the BSAC Japan

BSAC Japan has a sad history from the foundation at a while.
It is also true that there is a diver who is still holding the poor impression
because of it.
I will talk about it later again.

Yes, I was very fortunate to see one during my last evening in Kyoto, while I was walking through the Gion district. Another memorable event of my stay was a kibuki display at the conference dinner I attended in Kobe. The Japanese wife of the American organiser of the conference performed, while I watched spellbound, the simple, delicate movements that I had read about, but never seen before.

Amazing that we both started underwater swimming during the same decade, half a century ago!

Hi Shuzy
I am coming to Japan in December, and would like to go diving at Izu. I have looked into what dive centres are open etc (PADI, NAUI and so on). Have you any suggestions or recommendations on BSAC centers to use, or for that matter dive clubs?

Best regards
Chris Marsh

Hi Suzy

Thanks for reply, and sorry for the delay. I have contacted East Dive, they may go to Izu, but not sure yet. Have you any other suggestions? Of course I don't mind if the destination is not Izu, I would just like to get wet!!
