Hi All,

There are 3 IFC on the bsac website for North Wales, South Wales & West Midlands.

Does anyone know where these are actually going to be? (or who to contact to ask?)

I am wanting to do one but choosing between North Wales and West Midlands would depend where they are within their region.

Thanks
Martin

I've allways found it strange that HQ can't publish the exact location of IFCs, SDCs etc when they publish the dates. If a club/region is confident that it can run a course on a specific date it must have the venue booked already (otherwise it a bit risky advertising it and taking peoples money) , in which case why can't they publicies the address at the same time as the dates?

I think most regions have several venues that they use for IFCs, and when the dates are published the venue's not necessarily booked.

In which case they aren't sure that the course is going ahead so they shouldn't really advertise it or take money for it. I'm sure there are some practical considerations that make this difficult, i.e. needing a minimum number of people to justify the course and not wanting to pay for the venue until the minimum number of people have signed up, but it does make for a very odd system.

It would be like buying a ticket for a sports event, but not knowing when you were going to see it or where, and that's just ridiculous....oh hang on ;)

If regions published only events they are sure will run, we would have an extremely thin programme of events. As I understand it, regions publish a fair estimate of what they expect to be the need, based on their experience. They are asked for this some months before publication.

If we reflect on recent forecasting performance of successful multinationals, we should perhaps congratulate regions for trying at all. Regions do their best to make things happen, but members cannot be forced to behave exactly as their forebears behaved. Thus, events do get cancelled despite best endeavours of SDCOs. This is a shame, but reality.

If I'm to do the diving I plan to do next year, there will be damn-all room for other engagement. I've got over that, perhaps others will not, should I care?

Well I'm generally pretty impressed with the SDCs availability, I've only really had trouble finding the B&T workshop (which seems to be lacking in suitably qualified instructors ATM), so I'm not really complaining, just commenting really - it is an odd system.

Surely that can be run in branch?

The instructor requirements are really straightforward.

Cheers,

Gareth.

The instructors need to have done the B&T, so its a bit of catch 22.

Give HQ a call, you can have an ERD qualification or be an AI and automatically teach it, alternatively I think two OWI's can assess each other, HQ can clarify this.

Yes if your an AI you can teach the Bouyancy Workshop without any issues.

If you are an OWI and you want to teach the Bouyancy Workshop then you have to go on it and be assessed.

2 OWI's cant assess each other having never done the workshop. (As Far as I know)
