I have been in contact with the www.bsacsnorkelling.co.uk webmaster regarding updating the site. I reproduce part of his reply below.

"This site exists to serve the snorkelling community, but first they must generate the information, content and news required. If you find it boring then you know who is to blame! Perhaps everyone concerned thinks someone else will do whatever is necessary, but it does not work like that.
There is absolutely no problem with including any information supplied on the site and with generating new sections as required."

So it is up to you, give the information and the site can be updated, no problem. Have a look and give him stories, news, information.

It is your site, do something about it!!!!!

Might I suggest a link to it from the Snorkelling Talk forum?
I didn't even know bsacsnorkelling.co.uk existed, although I have to say I wasn't actively looking. :) (I never looked for the BSAC Travel club either, but they're more active in plugging themselves.)
I notice there's a page with suitable UK snorkelling sites (added by Batley snorkellers).
This is precisely the sort of thing that could be added to the BSAC Wiki Diving Encyclopaedia.
If you'd like, I could set you up a page for sites to be added.

I've been thinking about adding a page for so called 'Sheltered Water Areas' that would be suitable for either dive training or snorkelling, the Dive Instruct web site has some of these on a page and they would be useful for anyone wanting to plan dives (Scuba or Snorkel) If you'd like, I can transfer the Dive Instruct stuff over and then anyone can easily add any new ones they can think of.
What do you reckon?

Got a domain and a site so the easy bit is done but expects somebody else to write the content.

The web is full of them.
I would recomend you ignore it and hope it will go away.
Is it official?

Oh.
I thought it was official.
The email link is webmaster@bsac.com which I think is Mike Busuttilli (sp?)

Hi guy's , it is off Mike Busuttilli .;)
The site is the official Snorkelling website by BSAC . :)
The idea is one person can't do and think of everything , Website's are a team/group effort to get right , so a little help and input off everyone makes the webmaster's job a little easier .:D

It's a little known :) fact that the BSAC actually have - wait for it - SIX websites!

www.bsac.com more for non members
www.bsac.org more for members
www.bsacsnorkelling.co.uk snorkelling
www.bsactravelclub.co.uk Travel Club :) :)
www.divebsac.com for BSAC Centres
www.bsacforum.co.uk Forums!

Most people find one of the other but not all. I do believe that to solve this we are creating a new "finder" home page that will link to all 6.

It is official!!!! :)
It's been there for YEARS! First set up at least 7 or 8 years ago when Mike Smith was in charge of snorkelling at HQ. There is content but it needs updating and like all websites it needs to be constantly kept moving and interesting otherwise why go back!
One of the reasons Travel Club is so popular is that we put new content up nearly every day - at least several times a week for sure. It's hard work and it takes time but you can't rely on the tekkie guys to do it! It's like blaming the printer for selling a book with blank pages.

Thanks Allie, I knew about all of those except the www.bsacsnorkelling.co.uk (http://www.bsacsnorkelling.co.uk) one. :)
Mind you I rarely snorkel, so it's only of limited interest to me.
I can't recall seeing it mentioned anywhere either. But talk of a page linking them all sounds like a really good idea.
I note that there is also link to the bsacsnorkelling site from the forum links pages.

 Puhleeaase!

Go look at www.bsac.org - which I HOPE is your home page Andy!:p

but if not...just click on Neptune at the top right of THIS page

Down the left hand side is a big word called "Snorkelling" (It's right next to the banner for "Member Services" ...it links directly to www.bsacsnorkelling.co.uk;)

It's been there FOREVER!

Are you sure your flat cap has not slipped down over your eyes?;)

Easy to miss a link on the BSAC home page though... since its just a page with about 100 links in almost random order and categorisation :(

Well I thought you were exaggerating, but I just did a count up and got 96 links. That's a lot of links.
We do tend to only look at what interests us.
I'm not a regular snorkeller any more, which is why I've never even seen that part of the website, never mind noticing that it's on a different domain name.
John's rather excited reply about it being there forever is typical of his usual 'over the top' style. Do you think I should put some exclamation marks in so he'll feel at home?

There you go John. :D

Children, children... play nicely now! :D

We're in the process of setting up an 'index page' of all BSAC web sites.
We know .org is very poorly layed out (it grew organically), that's why it's in the process of being replaced.
Bob has taken the snorkelling site on-board and is trying to improve it.Now, teddies back in prams please!

But, but, he started it!
Anyway, it's not fair!
:D
Just having a dig at that other fat Yorkie.

Actually I was really surprised at just how many links there are on the bsac.org home page, which shows just how big the site is... and how much work is involved rewriting it.
Just linking a few pages and retitling them on the Wiki has needed careful thought between Vic, Adrian and myself, and we've only done a few pages so far.
I started off naming a page 'England', for Air and Gas suppliers in England, before we found out that we needed another page called 'England'
for the Dive Boats and another one for Sheltered Water sites called 'England'. A potential minefield.
And we're only playing at this. Well, I am anyway.

Now, teddies back in prams please! :rolleyes:As ever the problem is that somebody has to 'own' a site for it to prosper and trying to jolly or shame other people into doing the hard bit of writing content immediately annoys me. If you 'own' a site expect to write a lot of content. Getting volunteers to do HTML is easy.

Come to think of it somebody did that one to me once and nearly killed me...

Website are good , but it's the content and looking after them thats the hard bit and what starts off rensonable easy to lookafter and manage can quite quickly grow into a monster .
I have found an easy way to get content for our site and that is to get the kids to help ,so when they've been on a trip or course one of them does a little peice for the website . I know basic HTML code or enough to do a website , non of this in your face stuff . so the kids write the page in word format and then email it to me and i sort it out and put the relivant links and background on it .
Now i've got to look at the site and do some pruning i think and thats what has to happen with all website , so they can grow and mature into a better product for people to veiw .;)

No chance of you putting your favourite dive boat on the BSAC Wiki then....

Hi Andy,

Thanks for the offer but we have now put up many more dive sites. Would be grateful if anyone out there has any good photographs of Snorkellers, especially under water, to go on the site. Good snorkeller but a bloody awlful photographer myself.

Cheers

Bob
