Hi
I am trying to clarify what are the requirements having completed my Sports divers to start on my Dive Leaders training as I am wanting to get my dive leaders so I can continue on the OWIC and OWTC.
I have completed my IFC and am scheduled for the Oxygen administration SD course and Recue management course having done first aid for divers already.
I have been doing depth progression dives having done 6 dives greater than 30 and a night dive to the hydrobox at stoney as well as fitting in any dives I can but I am trying to get clarity as to the number of dives I have to do after my sports before I can start the Dive leaders training.
Any help will be appreciated.
Thankyou

AFAIK there are no requirements for you starting the course. After all Oxygene admin is part of the course and a qualified ocean diver can do that.
I think you need to be Sports diver + 20 dives to get signed off as complete though

Same query here, so is that 20 dives irrespective of duration, or do the 20 dives have to exceed a set munber of minutes diving?
From the Instructor Manual (page 219):
"The Dive Leader syllabus includes Open Water lessons and experience dives which should total a minimum of 20 dives and 600 minutes."
Notice the word 'includes'. [I could start a whole new argument on when the course starts.]

Dive leader , the only lecture you can't do through an SDC is lecture 1 of dive leader . If you do Oxygen Administration SDC , Practilal Rescue Management SDC and the Dive Planning And Marshalling SDC this covers all the lectures and some of the dives for dive leader .:)
Hope this helps
DT2-DT7 Oxygen Administration Award
DT8 & 12 & DP1 Dive Planning & Marshalling
DT9-11 & DO5 Practical Rescue Management
DO1 Advanced Nitrox or Advanced Diving Techniques
DO4 Search & Recovery

600 minutes, so average of 30 mins per dive
My understanding is that there are no requirements needed to start the course, just to complete it.
It also says somewhere (I think in the BoH) that you are allowed to start the theory lectures for the next grade before completing the previous grade. Eg a fully qualified OD could sit SD lectures and then get DL lectures signed off, despite not having completed all parts of SD. I have insisted that people have passed their SD exam though.
IIRC you can't sit the lectures for two grades up. So out OD couldn't get AD lectures signed off.

Cheers for info guys. Looks like I can start it now. :)

Thanks Alan and all the others who have replied. I am currently doing the route of SDC's with Oxygen Admin and Practical Dive Management and combined Nitrox before Scarpa in July. I will have over 20 dives before taking the theory and openwater dives but I needed to clarify as dont want to waste instructor time at club.
Again thanks to all who replied

Don't forget the 600 minutes bit as well.
