Is it possible to download data from an Aladin Prime without Smartrak? It would be logical for the Aladin itself to have a "send" option but that doesn't appear to be the case. As far as I can see the logic behind IR transfer here is upside down and totally Smartrak oriented. It's like Uwatec didn't want people to use anything else to view their data.

My problem is the following: I recently bought a Psion 5mx computer to use as a mobile office. There's a great piece of software called S5Dive which is basically a digital dive log. It also allows you to import data from Aladin AirX, Pro and others that support serial cable. However, I was thinking of getting an Aladin Prime so I could connect it to the Psion via IR. Yesterday I borrowed one from my buddy and I couldn't establish a connection no matter what I tried. I'd appreciate all the help you can give!

Also a question on computers.. how does Aladin Pro fare compared to Prime? Is it worth buying Pro so I could transfer data directly to Psion or not?

Cheers!

Sorry - no idea about the IR, however for all you budding DIYers here is a good link to build your own aladin download cable.

I built one of those serial links, a true diving bargain (rare thing), still going, but the computer, sadly, has been nicked.

Not sure about the Infra Red on the latest uwatec computers, if the protocol is different to the old aladins (and it probably is) then it will require an enthusiastic software person to work it out and write some new software.

If anyone wants to donate me a new computer, I'll be happy to try :-)

Uwatec do provide several different Software options for downloading from the IR enabled computers.

Including TravelTrak a version designed for Handheld computers. Not sure if it works with Psion but sure it does with Palm and Windows CE.
