HOLIDAY INSURANCE

New to this please bear with me.

We booked a holidy with '???????' and have paid our deposit. unfortunately since then my husband has had 2 heart attacks. He has been to the hospital twice : one week apart : for tests to ascertain the problem and possible damage.
Whereas he does not see the specialist 'til April his own G.P. has advised that he cannot fly.

We informed the net based tour operator and their reply was :-

Thank you for your e-mail.
If you were to cancel the booking by the 10th of June your deposit of £115 per person + Insurance of £44 per person will be forfeit in accordance with our conditions and we must receive your instructions in writing.

If you and your child still wish to continue on the holiday you will no longer receive the child discounts of £ £304.50 in the first centre and £270.05 in the second centre.

We took out insurance with this company. Our doctor has advised that he is willing to supply us with a letter confirming my husbands situation.

Can anyone advise us : Do we claim off the insurance om this operator or are the operators being harsh. Any relevant advice would be gratefully received

regards

I'm sorry about your husbands health

I can't quite see what the problem is with the payment?

If you wish to cancel the holiday, then do so and claim on the holiday insurance. The insurer would then pay the cancellation costs. I think this is why we take out insurance (to cover unforseen problems)

I think that it is irrelevant that the operator sold you the insurance, Operarators appear to be just resellers (just like tesco ), they just take a cut on everything they sell.

Or do you think it is unfair that the operator is sticking to its terms and conditions ? (ie should they pity you because of your husband's illness, and be out of pocket themselves ?)

Cor...that sounded a bit harsh!

However - I think the message is valid.

Regardless of the reasons for cancellation - the tour operator is quite within it's rights to follow their contract.

The insurance (against circumstances such as this) is there to pick up the peices (and the bill)
So you should contact your insurance company and ask them to deal with everything for you. They will tell you whether or not your GP needs to write a letter (and they will pay for it too!)

Hope he recovers swiftly and you get to go away again soon!
