View Full Version : Plasterer in the North West
I know this is a long shot, but after an accident in the kitchen last night I need a plasterer for a small job :D
I am in the North West about 10 miles NE of Manchester.
Just need a reliable person to see what can be done.
I have just been given a link which might do the job, bit if plastic not a man :D

Fiona - your doing the right thing by asking on the Forum.
The text on this page has been moderated slightly by myself due to threats of litigation by Dixon the Building Contractor.
Divers don't tell lies - I have litigation thrown at me quite a lot, the last company boss that tried ended up jumping country after I hired Private Investigators from Manchester to hunt him down and reclaim monies owing.
I guess it's that rubber suit that scares them so much.
Mr Dixon and others concerned might just consider a well written letter of apology for the immeasurable distress this situation has caused my mother.
Of interest to everyone looking for a builder etc.
Here's what happened to my Mum after the Carlisle Floods! (I've copied from YD forum)
Carlisle Floods: Warning about Homeserve and K. Dixon Building Contractors from Berwick upon Tweed:
Hundreds of homes not started on (not all under Homeserve I might add), and no one knows how many were supposed to be complete, but are now having to rip part of it out and start again because the work done was so bad and all by supposedly registered builders, corgi gas fitters, Electricians etc.
My own mother has warped floorboards, dodgy electrics and as for the Corgy Reg Gas fitter - - he only blocked off the trap door with a dirty big pipe stopping anyone who needed to get under the floorboards to inspect or repair something. Interesting or what.
They only come twice a week for 4 hours sessions and so far it has taken 14 month. They try hard to pressurise my mother (elderly) to sign the form - work complete. They decorating while the builders were working saying there you are all done nice and clean. The builders were still plastering, leaving paint rough like sandpaper cause of the dust.
The paper started peeling off after two weeks!! then Homeserve person tried to say it must be because she left the heating off. It was on.
K. Dixon, the building contractor who hired all these guys in, tried to say it wasn't his fault  - Was it not? leave everyone to decide on that one.
They even tried to get her to sign a works completion form 6 months ago so they could get their money. She didn't sign.
Today - there is no kitchen, the trap door issue has not been resolved and all the paper and paint has been removed waiting to get started on by her own decorator. The Builders decorator has been booted off the job.
The local MP Eric Martlew has been called in to assist.
Remember that tune - 'There may be trouble ahead' - and guess who is going to cause it.
The final update for you all:
Hurrah – thanks to this story told here in part - My mother can finally relax!
The Building Contractor has now paid her back in full, for the replacement of her peeling / upside down wallpaper throughout her home. Has paid for the “gone missing” ladders, light bulbs and washing bowl etc.
And paid for another person to fill in all the holes in the ceiling, skirting boards and around the electric sockets etc.
The Insurance company has requested that she now goes ahead and finds her own joiners, builders and glaziers to finish her home after months of despair and inactivity.
The kind insurance company has sent the builder his cheque for whatever monies he is due.
Although the builder now wants to sue me for talking about all this to my dive buddies.

Got to be a great story there Fiona. :)
Have you had a bad or other experience with these builders "K. Dixon of Berwick"? And what about Homeserve?
Hi Paul
A few years ago we used Homeserve at work a couple of times, so when I needed a plumber at home I decided to ask Homeserve, they never turned up. I phoned them and they said they would come but they didn't bother and I had waited in all afternoon. I suspect they decided my job was too small.
Adrian - the story is on YD :D

Thanks for that one.
Keep them coming cause we have an appointment with the MP for Carlisle and he tell's us he knows about Homeserve.
Update: 6/3/06 We have met with Mr E. Martlew MP and he is to write to the head of the Insurance company.
Will keep everyone posted on how this goes as it may be worthwhile for those of you who may face serious problems with tradesmen. This approach may suit some better than going down the road of litigation.
