View Full Version : Hello everyone
Hi everyone, just a little about me
Age:51
Not BSAC diver - given PadiOWD course as a present 8 years ago. Completed it a month before trip to Maldives, got there, ear infection! Never dived again - lost nerve I guess - till Nov2005, Maldives again. Hadn't planned on diving but ended up taking the Advanced OWD while there! Have read that the forum welcomes all UK divers, so here goes! ( Really hooked now, planning next trip, thinking "gear", will join BSAC shortly, which u/w housing for my camera........v.exciting time for my girlfriend and I - it's all happening!)

Evening Jeff and welcome.
Good to hear you are hooked after your ear infection, the diving was obviously meant to happen :)
If you put up your location you might find that members of your local BSAC branch are on the forum too. Just in time to start getting ready for British summer diving too.
Adrian
Hi Adrian,
I'm in Lambourn, will put in in profile! Don't know about the summer dives in uk though - my girlfriend is a chilly mortal, and I'm not too keen on the cold myself! That's what's so funny about my story really - braved drysuit diving in a freezing , extremely low-viz lake near Datchet in early March in pursuit of my ticket, flew to the Maldives a month later and couldn't dive! Oh the hands of fate.........snorkelling was good though! Guess you're right - was meant to be!

The lake would be Wraysbury then Jeff? Heard of it, I hope I will never have the pleasure - the sea is usually warmer and clearer by all accounts.
Adrian
Near there - was at a place called TVSki at Datchet. From what I hear Wraysbury is a paradise compared:D :D :D The vis was, I guess 7-8m for our first open water dive, but during our surface interval and discussion the waterski boat started up on the other side of the lake.........for the next three dives the viz must have been 2m or less at a guess! Did see 1 perch though - about 6 inches long and right at my feet ! Guess he was being sympathetic:D

Welcome aboard jeff
Wether you're BSAC or not you're more than welcome here, and please contribute to the forums

Hi Steve
Wasn't sure about signing up - been lurking around for about a month as it's a good site, lots of info and informative, but wasn't sure what sort of reception I'd get, being from the dark side an' all:D :D :D Stumbled across something about "all UK divers being accepted" and i just sort of jumped right in! Seems like a good place. Have emailed BSAC re: membership, and I notice there's a branch just down the road.............

Lamburn would place you between Newbury, Swindon & Wantage. I cant speak for the others but I looked at Wantage a couple of years ago [b4 moved south] they are very well equiped and can offer all the training you'd require they meet [or were then] at the Swimming Pool
