View Full Version : OMS Over Pressure Pull Dump Valve
Hi I went out diving to day the the OMS Over Pressure Valve on my wing kept sticking I tryed to take it to bits but it looks like its sealed. Do I have to buy the whole thing or can I but it in bits. :)
They come apart well they did on mine dead simple design.
You should be able to unscrew the outher casing and get to the dump.

Beanie's right
they aren't sealed and do come apart. I have a couple of OMS wings and have stripped down valves on both. The newer ones are a slightly different design to the older ones but still unscrew the same.

Last time I stripped one down, I was given a special tooly-thing by the guy I work for to do it with... Was a right PITA to out a new bladder in
EDIT: might not be thinking of right thing tho - was quite I while ago :p

I seem to remember there been a specific tool 5 or so years ago to do that job. I just looked on their website but couldn't see one. Im pretty sure there were 2 gaget/tools, as i was going to fiddle with mine then realised I hadn't got the right tools for the job. Worth a call to SDS Watersports for help.

Are you sure the valve was malfunctioning? The standard top pull dumps have been known to get caught up when donning and be pulled open underwater. The two common solutions are to extend the pull cord onto the shoulder in a Buddy Commando sort of way, or remove it completely in a KISS sort of way. Obviously there are some points to consider when modifying your kit in this manner.
The valves do come apart. You may be able to loosen them by pouring hot water over them. Careful application of a set of pipe grips and a cloth should shift a particularly stubborn valve.
MattS is correct about the pull dump getting caught up in the harness.
After jumping off a boat with a set of stages & sinking  I cut the bloody pull dump string off - that fixed it.:D
What I finally settled with is to cut the pull dump string off at the overpressure valve. Then replaced the inflate hose for one that includes a pull dump, much better all round. I've been diving it like this for a number of years.
