Hello everyone,

I had booked a week in Sharm in Feb, with a local dive shop, but unfortunately it doesn't look like this trip is going to be going ahead anymore.

I don't have a regular buddy and so I wanted to book a holiday with a club/shop so that I would be buddied up with someone of suitable experience and not diving with a different person every day on the boat. Also, so I would have company in the evenings, a group of people to go out to dinner with etc...

I'm gutted that the trip has fallen through and so I thought I'd put a post on here to see if any other groups are going to Eguyp in Feb and need an extra person to make up the numbers.

I am Padi OW with 31 dives, hoping to do my AOW soon. I am 25 and based on the border of Hampshire / Surrey. Because I only have 31 dives, I don't think I have enough experience for liveaboards.

If any groups are going in Feb/March and have spaces for me, please let me know....

Thanks

Jennie

Jen,

I appreciate the sentiment of wanting to travel with people you have at least a passing aquantaince with. There are a lot of people who travel to Sharm as singles or with non diving partners. I've gone out a couple of times alone and a couple of times with the family (no divers). Picking up buddies is very easy.

If your traveling alone I would recommend Ocean club through explorers. Single rooms are only about £7 a day extra, but if you stay at one of the hotels attached to Emperor, Camel divers, Oonas etc you will not be lonely for a moment.

I am going to Sharm for a week 20th Feb with my 2 teenage daughters. I'm an instructor and I always buddy with my 14 year old who is an SSI AOW with 80+ dives. My older daughter is an SSI Master Diver and she will pass her 100 dive mark on this trip. So, she gets buddied with another qualified diver and we dive as a 4. You would be very welcome to join our group for as long as you liked - at least you know you would have someone to start off with. Alan is right - you will meet people on the boat and around the pool soon enough - but I can understand your concerns. It isn't as easy for a woman travelling alone to get chatting - well, sometimes it's unwelcomely too easy ;) !!! We will probably dive with Camel because I know them well.

Let me know if you want to meet up.

Hi everyone, thank you all very much for your replies. I have looked into a few more options now and have decided that I am probably going to book to go on a liveaboard from Sharm. I have spoken to the operator and they have said that it's fine to go with my experience, and I will also be doing my AOW on the trip.

Alison, thank you very much for the offer to hook up with you and your daughters, it is much appreciated, The reason I have opted for the liveaboard is because I think this is going to be the best way to build up my confidence, although I'm going to have to be very brave!

No problem! Have a great time - I know you will absolutely love it. People are so friendly and on a boat everyone gets to know each other very quickly. You really form close bonds, everything is very communal. And the diving will be a heck of a lot better than you get from the day diving boats. I think you've got plenty enough dives for the trip - just take the divemasters' advice and learn from them. Don't forget to tell us all about it when you get back - please!

Well I'm home and have had a fantastic time:D :D :D :D :D :D

The boat was excellent as were the guides and crew. Barry and Tori the guides were really enthusiastic, gave really good briefings and their patience with me over the week has hugely boosted my confidence in the water.

We did the wrecks and reefs itinerary. The highlights for me were the Thistlegorm, The Kingston and a night dive on The Barge.

The other divers on the boat were a really nice group of people who made the trip really enjoyable and memorable.

The only problem is that I had to go back to work today and I'm suffering from a serious case of post holiday blues :(

ok here is a quick one

monarch are crap for getting us to go to LGW for 6am and then throwing a 9 hour delay on us

Egypt is hot; saw a manta before the check dive at Ras Katy.

Typhoon is a great boat but avoid cabin 9 (I was in it) pretty sure the septic tank lies underneath or near it and the room filled with a rather unpleasant raw sewage smell; to be fair the crew dealt with it each day to keep down the worst of it

As usual the Camel bar was the destination at the end of the week - top tip? Reserve two tables on the upstairs terrace so the whole boat can sit together

Great week and a great time
