Double Fins

I was recently on holiday in Croatia and saw someone snorkelling with a strange pair of fins on - both of his feet were together in the fin and it only had one 'blade' which was about double the size of a normal fin, in a semi-circular shape. almost like a dolphins fin. he kicked using the butterfly leg action and the fin seemed incredibly effective. I was just wondering if anyone could tell me what these fins are called, how much the generally cost and where i can buy them from. Cheers for any help

These fins are called Mono Fins, we have a couple at our Branch for messing around with in the pool. No one particularly likes them nor would they think of using them in open water. They were at the Branch when I arrived some five years ago, no one seems to know where they came from or how much they cost.

I know in some parts of the world they use them for racing, the competitor having a mask and snorkel, but with the snorkel coming up the centre, no, no ping pong ball, held in place with a special head band, yes you've guest it we have one of those as well. I did hear rumours that they were bought because someone thought it was going to be introduced as an Olympic Sport!!!!!!!! and wanted to get there.
