Folks,
Do snorkellers use depth gauges?
I NEED to know where 5/6m is and a bitta knotted string
is not very high tek!
The problem is that analogue depth gauges are not sensitive enough at shallow depths and digital ones, I think, need TIME to react. I've been looking at the Uwatec depth/timer.
Is there an alternative?
Thanks
Cheers

Carol,
In the past we have used divers to sit at the required depth.
Why not use a shot weight and line attached to a large inflatable SMB

Ian,
Thanks for the info!
I can just see the divers in our Club sitting at 6m whilst we snorkellers practise surface dives <wg>
I know however, they use divers as safety backup for the freedivers.
I already used a shot weight with a knotted line to mark out depths and two buoys so that the "depth gauge line" was adjustable.
A bit untidy though with all that line.
I reckon the Suunto computer D3 would be the one to get if my Lotto numbers come up.
Cheers

Carol,
You need to convince Divers in your club that they do need Snorkellers (and get then to help), that's basically what we did. Divers in some form or another are usually present at our open water sessions.
Have a look in the local papers/add mags for a second hand Dive timer or computer .
