Milly Dowler, the Walton Schoolgirl, who was tragically killed last year, was a member of our club 'Kingston and Elmbridge Junior Snorkelling'. Her Mother Sally is a Snorkel Instructor and her sister was also a member of the club.
Milly's parents have set up Milly's Fund in her memory to help educate children and young adults on personal safety issues.
This event touched us all and we would like to help. We have already held a sponsored snorkel and have raised over ?2000.
However, when they heard of Milly's connection with Snorkelling, other Clubs wanted to help too.
Our friends at nearby Dorking Snorkelling Club came up with a big idea - Wave Makers; the largest snorkel expedition in the world. The idea is for a sponsored snorkel at Swanage Pier to raise funds for Milly's Fund and celebrate BSAC's 50th Anniversary.
Wave Makers is planned for June 29th at Swanage in Dorset - with a reserve date of July 6th, should the weather not be good enough.
We have registered the event with the Guinness Book of Records. Wave Makers has the support of BSAC, Swanage council, Swanage Sailing Club and has safety cover from some Dive clubs.
We would like as many Snorkelling Clubs as possible to send a team to take part.
We are therefore inviting you to bring Snorkellers to take part in the event. All BSAC members who have achieved a minimum standard of Snorkel diver and have experience of at least 2 Open Water dives are invited to join us. We particularly welcome young snorkellers as it is something positive they can do to remember a fellow junior Snorkeller.
Please put June 29th (and July 6th) in your diaries and register your interest in taking part. Either print out and complete the form below and send by post to the address below, or email the details to me nick.snorkels@ukdiver.com
We will then send you an information pack with full details.
We look forward to your support for Wave Makers. This is our chance to show support to a fellow snorkeller and also our chance to show BSAC the strength of the snorkelling community.
Yours sincerely
