The Advanced Snorkelling Instructors event May 22/23 May 2011

All of you that attended last year’s Sport for All campaign and have been working hard to promote Snorkelling, this is the next course you should be thinking about doing and this is one you will want to attend.

If you haven’t yet completed the Advance Snorkel Life Saver which you need to have done before doing the Avanced Snorkelling Instructors course there may be the possibility of running this immediately prior to the event at the same location, so a weekend of training then rest of the year to enjoy teaching your new skills.

Please support this event, we are in need of Advance Snorkelling Instructors to carry on the good work BSAC and Sport England started early last year.

Check out Events 2011 for booking information

Event is planned to be held around Swanage / Kimmeridge
If you want more info on venue campsites etc feel free to send me a P.M

Pity that good work doesn't extend to providing courses or training to those at the bottom of the snorkelling ladder, nor indeed does that good word extend to persuading more branches to offer snorkelling.

Hi Hu1
I have been reading your posts and can see your frustration, two years ago
our club had 89 diving members and 2 young snorkelling members who were taught to snorkel by divers, we now have 16 snorkel members and 6 more joining at the end of the month.
Reason for growth, we could see that by creating and developing the snorkelling side of the branch we encouraged younger family members to get involved and be a part of the branch.
These young people are our future, they are keen and we want to keep them as long as possible.
We also have taken on adults who dont want to scuba but want to be taught how to snorkel the correct way so they can enjoy the sport on holidays etc.
This has not come easy, you need to fight to make anything happen in life, and the reality is if you want something to happen dont wait for it go get it yourself.
Your more than welcome to come to Dorset anytime we will put you through the some training then when you get to instructor grade, go back to your branch and promote it at every level get the press involved, you now teach snorkelling, you may be surprised how many people will take up your offer to teach them. Last year we had over 150 people taking try snorkels, these from schools, scouts, sea cadets, and members of the public.
All this from one instructor who enjoys seeing the face of a women crying with joy as she has wanted to snorkel with her grandchildren, but had never put her face or head under water, one hour later head down 100 metres snorkel swim and a duck dive to 2 metres, worth everything.
By the way I am not a snorkelling instructor or the person mentioned above I am a basic sport diver and the person who when he wants something makes sure it happens.
If BSAC get enough people through the course in May so many more snorkellers will be able to enjoy open water snorkelling, so thats why we need the likes of you to promote the sport, your keen and vocal, book yourself a weekend away:)
