Our club membership has now shrunken to a level where we are going to loose our pool. Luckily, and perhaps peversly,we have had one of the best years of British diving! Our core active divers remain solid, and I see no real risk of there being a problem for the next few years. However,we fear that there may be some drift away, with no focus to meet. Have any clubs gone through this, and what helped keep the club together. There are no tensions , and we get on very well.

We're seeing more and more clubs sharing pools David, maybe get together with another club in your area and share facilities?

Our club have been without a regualar pool evening for 3yrs. We still train OD level but do it once or twice a year as an intensive two day course over a weekend and hire a school pool for both the afternoons... everything else can be done in the sea (or in a lake/quarry if necessary.)

We meet at a pub and everyone keeps in touch via an e-mail list, (we use Yahoogroups) we've seen an incease in diving and just as many trainees, in fact its really helped as we've been able to reconsider our membership costs as well!!!

Some clubs seem very tied to their pool, perhaps even to the point where it decreases the amouth of OW diving they do?
I often read about people developing "new and exciting pool lessons/sessions to help their trainees along" Why not just take them away for a weekend to the coast or even a quarry (if you must ;) they'll learn a whole bucket more about diving and everyone gets to know each other so much better than an evening pool session IMO.

I think a day under swanage pier is worth far more to a trainee that hours piddling about in a pool- all IMVHO if course :)

You don't say where you are. We are a small club and often have others come and share our pool. We are Kensington London and have a 3.2 mtr pool which we are willing to share
