Getting a bit busy down there.
Ok can we all agree that while a photo would be nice, we can
live happily without it.
So the only real objection seems to be the verification of the
diver grade and the accuracy of the HQ database.
Been said that if it is wrong the only thing it affects is
the membership subs. Not so. BSAC use the diver grade to check
eligiibilty for ITC's and SDC's. So getting it wrong is more
than just financial.
I really think that all this is a red herring. If we accept a
diver to sign a bit of paper each year, that says hes medicly
fit to dive. Are we now saying that the same diver is unable
to tell us accuratly, what his grade is?
At least I can check his QRB. I'd need a medical degree
to check his self-cert.
I'm wondering if the objection isnt because it's not
possible to check, but because it's not checked now and would
entail slightly more work.
To me the bottom line is that there are divers that will say
they are higher than they are. There are also DO's that will
sign up there mates (without doing the work) and divers that
will forge QRB's. Again I cant see how BSAC can base it's
whole strategy on a few dishonest people.
This isnt just BSAC BTW. I know a PADI rescue diver that has
never done AOW and divers working as DM's that are only PADI
AOW.
