I think we should make it a written constitutional rule, backed up with proactive inspection and monitoring of members PC's, that they posted things under the appropriate thread instead of starting loads of new ones :-)
Vote for MEEEE!!!!!

Dispite our spats on here Keith you have my vote on enthusiasm
alone.
Much rather have a council member that does something even if
I dont agree with it, then one that I do agree with and does
nothing :-)

You may well find you've been elected - you've got 3 definate votes. With the general apathy that surrounds voting, you've got a head start (except they would need to put the vote in an envelope & post it)!
Lets hope the general membership get involved in the election of officers. If you don't vote your not in a position to complain about the direction or running of the BSAC!!
May be that could be your campain motion.
Those who don't vote can't compalain about the runing of the BSAC on the forum!

Make that four. You know, if we do this properly maybe we can get Terry elected whether he wants it or not... ;-)

This reminds me of the not so funny comment about our National Elections as to why "they" daren't include "None of the Above" as an option on our ballot papers. Trouble is, "None of the Above" would undoubtedly be elected!!!

FIRSTLY, design and get out straight away a BSAC Calender with big bold letters " BSAC 2005 ". Just to be up to date ;-)
1). Drop the age limit for BSAC members to train and join, bringing BSAC competition in line with PADI.
2). Gain government grants, for UNI branches.... then no more releying on student fees.....
3). Get more disabled people diving , via FREE consessions like they do for transport etc etc etc ....

Dear Members
If elected I will endeavour to steer the BSAC away from this weird parallel universe it seems to have slipped into. In this strange place everybody agrees with Terry and is voting for him even though he?s not standing :-) Normal service will be resumed after the elections.

p.s. I also think Terry should stand for Council, I have tried to talk him into it!

Same source of money though.

Can't afford free to disabled down here, many disabled in the SW. They often have to pay for parking too, even if they have a Blue Badge.

No I'm Spartacus and so's my wife!
Seriously, I once read in a work of fiction, "Politicians should be dragged screaming into office and only let out when they've done a good job". I reckon that makes Terry a prime candidate. He gets my vote and so does keith.
What would I do if I got elected?
1. Excommunicate any diver that belittles another for 'calling' a dive, and cut their reg hoses! Maybe boil them in their own tea.
2. Include basic Nitrox as part of basic training. It ain't that difficult.
3. 100 lashes for any BSAC Diver that takes the mick out of a PADI trained diver. They need our help not abuse. Truth to tell we need them too. They're a great source of new members.
4. Organise assessments of dive shops and let club members know the results. (need to research legal position). A local shop sold a neoprene drysuit to one of our new members recently. It was far too big. We pointed this out to him. He took it back only to be told that our club instructors were too 'fussy' He later bought another from Kent Diving, a perfect fit.
5. Bring back Twin Hose regs! No I don't mean the one that appeared in 'Dive' recently. Real diving should be uncomfortable. ;}
6. Ban dry suits for anyone with less than 100 dives experience. They should suffer just as much as I did. ;}
You gotta smile!
I dont need three, just the one.
Burn the fence :-)

Sorry Bob, but I'd vote for you (and your aims) with a simple
rewording of the proposal. As it stands no.

If elected I will endeavour to steer the BSAC away from this weird parallel universe it seems to have slipped into.
The real problem is that there are two ways people perceive BSAC and, long term, we will get the BSAC we perceive as we will vote for it.
There is the BSAC of rules and regulations. You see the people who belong to that BSAC here debating SDPs and the BOH as if it were writ by the finger of God not some other hapless volunteer doing the best they can. They talk about third party insurance like it stopped accidents and their favourite phrase is "you can't do that".
The other BSAC is a membership services organisation. This seeks to serve its members as first priority. OK some times 'serve' means 'protect' so SDPs, manuals, training QA and exams have their place but they are there for the benefit of the membership, to make them better divers so they have more fun and less incidents - and, when there is an incident, it is less serious because people have good training and the best backup.
When you look at a candidate you need to decide which BSAC they belongs too because that is the BSAC they will promote. One BSAC is there to be obeyed and one is to serve.

Very nicely put. - Are you joining Terry in a search to get elected?
For my sins I believe in the serve version of the BSAC - sits back awaiting flaming arrows.

More?
1. Force entire council and NDC etc. to go on any other agency
(non-BSAC) course.
2. Shoot whoever is in charge of PR in BSAC.
3. Burn fence (you will need something to stand 2 against)

Thank you. This is the sub-agenda, probably not even deliberate, that people have.
- Are you joining Terry in a search to get elected?
ROTFL. I have enough labour with a small engineering company hung round my neck like an albatross to need another operation to help run somewhere off in the frozen north when I'm in Brighton. Anyway... I wouldn't be very good at it. This would be a people management role and that is not me. All my diving goals involve getting wet.

of the many should be taken into account when a proposal is

Proposals are often made by a few on behalf of the majority, the views of everyone should be taken into account, but this comes when the Council is given the power to act and before it is passed by them. The proposal asks that Council be given the authority to act, it is their discretion as to what limitations are put on it, thats why they are elected. It's called democracy.

You are not everyone and niether are the forums Terry :-) However - I /DID/ raise the issue of a Junior BSAC during my summary of the 12yo debate to Council on Saturday. Clare (hence NDC) are aware of it, it is on-the-table along with the multitude of ther views we have received. See the statement from the NDC, the vote wont be the end of it by any means, there's one hell of a lot of work and further consulations to be had first.
But on the subject of the 12yo issue I can only make one absolutely cast iron guarantee and promise to all of our members. I can promise you all that no matter what we do - we wont please everybody :-)
Cheers

Err it was a quote from Bob Healey's previous post Keith!!!!
But hey ...
You could please almost all of them. How?
Simple rewording of the proposal would be a start.
But how about .........
Ask council etc. to appoint a committee of all iterested
parties to discuss and formulate a plan including all
safeguards, then put the plan to the membership.
I'd have no doubt that such a move would succeed and I for
one would vote for it.
You might say that we are voting and then the committee
will come up with the same plan anyway.
So how is it to be implemented, where is the getout clause.
What happens if a club gets it wrong.
Way to many unwnsered questions and absolutely no opportunity
to ask them prior to a vote.
We are supposed to make a decision on a subject which BSAC has
as yet no policy. Ok you keep saying 12 is the same as 14,
but the law and society doesnt thing so.
