Hi, Gaz,

Sounds to me like one for the club's DO when you join, possibly in consultation with HQ. Your Ocean Diver is bombproof, as it is a qualification awarded for life by the school. However, it does not carry life membership of the BSAC with it.

The Branch and instructors running your Sports Diver were possibly uninsured and certainly ill-informed. However, that is over and done with, it cannot be changed. If on joining the Branch, the DO has difficulty recognising your training from OD to SD, then I would wonder why - it was that Branch and its instructors, you say.

A different Branch would have no documentationto support your claim to SD, so you would be out on a limb, I believe.

Others will have different views and it will be interesting to see what they make of it.

HTH

Mike,it was mainly my fault as i had a card saying bsac international ocean diver and i thought it was a life membership. So no one realised untill we were out in cyprus and the main instructer asked for our books to be signd up.(I'm a soldier so i have lots of insurance cover)
The instructer has all the info and able to sign up the relevent book,so if i join today and once the qualls all signd up will it be above board.

Gaz,

That figures. Strictly my personal opinion as a Branch TO - I can see nothing wrong in your proposal.

Mike ;-)
