View Full Version : dive rite
evening all :) another question regarding diverite transpac.
Im wandering if it is possible to fit a back plate to my transpac for stability. i would be happy to loose the padded back to fit the backplate so would like to use the harness i have on the transpac and just strip it down and refit to plate. if this is possible do you have to use a diverite plate or can i use one from another manufacturer. i only ask this as i have seen custmoised plates that can have your own writting added to them for personalisation.
thanks in advance

I would suggest you contact either Dive Rite themselves or maybe Dive Gear Express (http://www.divegearexpress.com/express/contact.shtml), who I've bought lotsa Dive Rite stuff from in recent months - if you do it of an evening UK time, you'll normally get a reply from DGE within an hr as they're on the East Coast. They are very good at getting back to you, excellent customer service.
Have a look at http://www.divegearexpress.com/bcs/transplate.shtml
Both wife and I use a back plate and use the padded back on our (very old) transpacs when not travelling.
thanks for the replys. regarding you useing yours with a plate. do yo use a dive rite bacplate??and didnt understand if you used the plate in uk or abroad lol wandered how easy it change from the plate back to the soft back? i just like te idea of having more stability and hope this adds it. i would apreciate any info you hae to offer and if you have pics even better:)

It's not the dive rite plate, it's something that was cut and bent some time ago. I'm working away at the moment, should be back for the weekend. PM me with your email address and I'l send a photo of my setup.

Hi Gary pm sent thanks.
Has anyone else got experience of usin transpac harness with a Steel/Ali backplate???
I think what you are describing is using your harness on a steel/ali BP, which is what Dive Rite do on their transplate system.

Depends on what Transpac you have but from my recollection of the transpac you may have problems doing this as there is a metal plate where the shoulder straps meet the waist strap and this would not work with a backplate.
May be easier to sell yours and get a Transplate or similar.
Something like this with a SS backplate would work out pretty much the same as a Transplate harness on its own: -

Thanks for reply about the harness and a ss. Had a look and looks like a nice quality harness at a good price. I have integrate pocket for my transpac so would like to add integrated into whatever setup I use. Any ideas what kind of wings can be added to this harness and ss bp? I want something small as I use a single and pony at moment but might purchase twin 10's so would also need single Cylinder converter for now. Any ideas people ????? Thanks in advance
The only wing that I have heard of that actually works with singles and twins is one of the Dive Rite wings that has a bungy on the inside that pulls the wing in when used with a single. I think its the Trek wing.
Thanks for replying so quick. Well I already have the rec wing (diverite) that is the one that is said to be for single And twins but I find it very unstable
Underwater. It seems the wing wraps the cylinder more one side than the other. This is one reason I want to change to a more stable backplate to hopefully help stop The cylinder rolling on my back and rolling me to one side. I have just read on a forum that I should fasten the wing to the bp at the bottom to help prevent tank wrap. As I said looks like a nice harness and added to back plate and sta will Make a nice rig hopefully and won't break the bank so adding the rec wing to The equasion Is even more cost effective. Thanks
Well the IST Deluex harness, Ali backplate, and angle
Tank adapter have now been ordered from "divelife" for total £128 Inc postage. Will use my rec wing (diverite) unroll
I Get payed again and will Purchase a nice new wing to
Go With my new shiney kit. Any recommendations for a nice wing suitable for single (& pony) and twins ( eventually ) would he greatfully appreciated guys and girls
