I am the assistant equipment officer for Branch 069 (ULSAC). I have recently been set the task of investigating into quotes for insurance for the clubs diving equipment. Our current policy is coming up to its expiry and, as a cash-strapped student club, we are looking for new cover at a good price.

Our equipment includes BCD's, air tanks, emergency cylinders and regulators. I am wondering if any can recommend any insurers for this dive equipment.

All comments appreciated.

Many Thanks,

Stephen Rome

You are lucky; our SU doesn't insure our equipment.
I too have looked at insurance for kit and boats and have found a site, take a look and tell me what you think

We (Cambridge University) use Dive-Master.
I don't think that we have a standard policy - I think that we have opted to remove some of the "added features" eg ?20 kit hire per day if kit is stolen!

If you're insuring a lot of kit, then think about only covering it for theft (rather than also emergency jetison). The commonly lost items (weightbelts, DSMBs etc) will probably not be covered, and over a number of years the cost saved by not paying extra will cover a full set of club kit (less excess).

Possibly obvious - but make sure that you base your values on "what it would cost to replace" rather than "actual purchase cost" or "asset value - ie inc. depreciation"

Lastly, once you know the total replacement cost, phone up to get a quote for your circumstances (you'll probably be over the "standard amounts" ?3-5K anyway).
