I have been looking for a BSAC branch in Glasgow for sometime now and can't find one. The branch listings only gives me this;

Glasgow Clyde Cronies To Be Arranged,
Glasgow.

As you can see they aren't exactly forthcoming with a lot of info. about themselves. Surely this can't be the only BSAC in a city the size of Glasgow! Any pointers would be appreciated.

Thanks
Peter

Can I suggest you have a look at the list of web sites of BSAC branches in the south of Scotland (link below). You may find that some of them are near enough to be of interest and you will get a better idea of their activities from their web sites.

The only two I can see for Glasgow itself are the Clyde Cronies and the Uni club. There's a branch that meets in Kilsyth to the NE of Glasgow and the Lock Lomand club who meet in Alexandria to the NW. There's a few ScotSAC branches in Glasgow as well.

Thanks gents,
Yep, I've contacted the Uni branch but as it's a Uni branch they weren't too keen to have me, as I not an instructor, even though I've done 250'ish dives.

Kirkie Thistle and Loch Lomond are just a bit too far away for me to get to on club nights.

Clyde Cronies aren't exactly forthcoming with too much info. about where they are or who they are. I reckon they would be my best option if I could find anything more out about them.

I know about the ScotSAC branches as I've just left one of them due to the usual "DO's personal politics" nonsense. Lets just say that on my way driving over the bridge I threw the proverbial petrol bomb out the back window.

Thanks anyway, I'll keep looking and see what I can come up with.
Peter

I've had a look on our private system for you Peter and Cylde Cronies don't seem to be an active branch at present - of course if somebody from the branch knows different then you've got a potential member!

Anybody from the Glasgow area got some pointers for Peter? We seem to have drawn a blank so far.

Depends how far you want to go to get a club, but Uni branches
really value non-student Instructors.

So how about getting your name down for an IDC and tell them
that you are becoming an Instructor. That way you not only
become an ADI, but you get to use all the new students to
practice.

Unlike many "ordinary" brnaches the turnover of divers is so
great in Uni branches that they present very good training
grounds for Instructors.

All depends if you wnat to be an Instructor of course.

You don't have to go to every 'club' night to be a branch member. I'm a member of Kirkintilloch Thistle, some 35 miles away, take a look at their Web site.

Can't comment on the Loch Lomond lot, but there only a mile away with a realy 'friendly' ...

Kirkie Thistle and Loch Lomond are just a bit too far away for me to get to on club nights.

Looking forward to the trip in Sep.

Peter, replying on behalf of Clyde Cronies. I cannot think why you would wish to go diving with us rude boys. We do not have club nights and the last AGM was held during lunch between dives, the previous one was on the ferry to Scapa.

Thanks people,
Sorry about the time it took to get back. I thought this thread would have been dead and buried by now.
I'll go back and try the Uni again. I had E-mailed the DO back and forth a couple of times but when I said I wasn't an instructor it seemed to turn her off a bit. I would like to be an instructor and maybe didn't make that clear to her. After 25o'ish dives I probably should be already, but I was just enjoying my diving and putting myself through Master diver at a leasurly(?) pace.
I had an "incident" in January which is restricting my times/depths at the moment so this would be the ideal time for me to be taking trainees as well. Both building up my own dive fitness and teaching at the same time!!!

I'll get back top her, if not the Uni, then hello Kirkie Thistle.

Thanks again for your time and efforts in helping a rebel without a clue,
Peter

Hi Angus
Yes, an incident! a bend! a recompression treatment!
5hours on a table 5 with 2 x 2 hour extensions and another Comex12 the next day. I was not a happy bunny!
The club made me feel like a leper over it, that's why I'm not there any longer and wanting to jump ship to the wonderful BSAC. I've just lost all faith in ScotSAC to reasonably be there when you need them.
Master diver is a ScotSAC qualification! According to BSAC's SALT it crosses over to Dive Leader.

Peter
PS-I'm only 26. Don't make me feel like a crony. When you say that I think ABLJ's and Calor gas regs;o)
