Hi
I'm doing a doctorate in clinical psychology and want to research this area for my thesis... was wondering if anyone knew much about this area or has had personal experience of Type II DCI? I would really appreciate any help!

No personal experience myself but I think you'll find quite a number of folk here who do have personal experience of type II DCI. As far as psychological effects of DCI goes, I imagine you'll find 'denial' is likely to be the most significant effect as it is already well-documented.

If I may be so bold as to offer a constructive suggestion: considering the implications of DCI, i.e a diving ban, and the way UK divers tend to feel about diving i.e. a bit obsessive, I half-expect you might find some similarities with the "grief pattern" which IIRC would be denial, anger, depression and acceptance. Maybe the DDRC could be of some assistance (see link)
Cheers

Are you purely interested in the psychological effects or the neuropsychological as well? It may be worth looking at changes in personality in a serial fashion after DCI,pehaps in a similar way as with concussional head injury,or with spinal injury or even MS.It may be that premorbid personality plays a major role in this as in so many other disorders. Clearly the effects of PTSD may need to be accounted for as much DCI may have arisen out of like threatening situations.
