View Full Version : Pins & needles
I?ve been diving for about 6 years now (180 dives logged) & notice that after some dives I get pins & needles in either or both my feet. The sensation will occur almost as soon as I get back on the boat & will last about a minute. There isn?t any pattern to the type or depth of dive that causes it. Needless to say the concerns about DCI have been considered, but there are no other symptoms & it is such a brief sensation that always passes after a minute or two that I have ruled this out. I?m reasonably fit & healthy & conduct all my dives well within limits. I?ve had a slipped a disc in the past & wondered if this may be linked to some nerve damage from that. The other thought is that it is something to do with the blood circulation having to adjust from the weightless effects of being in water to suddenly having to cope with gravity again. It?s not an issue with me but I would be interested if anyone has had similar experiences or any ideas what might cause it.

Somone was saying yesterday that they get this problem and thought it might be related to tight-fitting ankle weights, alternatively, are your feet tightly squeezed into your boots?
does it happen after long relatively shallow dives?

I had this a few times and put it down to fins/ankle weights being tight or similar always went away after a few seconds or so

Fin straps being over-tight certainly used to give me problems.

Thanks guys, it?s nice to know I?m not the only one. I don?t wear ankle weights & my boots, though snug, are not over tight. I?ve also had this when wet suit diving in booties which are a looser fit. I?ll try the finstrap theory sometime & see if it makes any difference.
Thanks

do you get cold feet when diving ?

My feet get cold in water below about 5 degrees but I would say this is more noticable when my feet are warm
