PDA for dive planning

Hi,

In a recent thread on deco algorithms, a couple of planning tools were mentioned. Do any of these run on PDAs (handheld computers) and if so are they any good?

Which PDAs are generally supported? Old purchase on ebay ones best!

V-Planner (http://www.hhssoftware.com/v-planner/) runs on Pocket PC. I have a Dell Axim X3 that I will be installing it on, and my regular buddy runs it on his HP iPaq. Check the website for more details about platform support.

I have GAP and a trimix planner of my own running on an iPAQ but I don't use them much. They've rather been squeezed out by running a VR3 and keeping fixed mix tables in my drysuit pocket. I like the iPAQs (I upgraded to a Hx4700) but I carry a plug in battery set when it's mission critical as they do sign-off rather abruptly long before 0% charge.

I'm a palm junkie though, as they do pretty much everything I need, and quite quick! Just google for something like "Palm" and "Dive" and you'll get loads turn up- including gas mixing, dive logs, many different deco programms (Decoweenie, DPlan, ZPlan, etc.)

I have J Plan on a Palm. The software is free and Buhlmann with GF. The Palm was also free which is why I have it!! I also have a MS CE based sub-notebook and nothing runs on it. (On the laptop I have V Planner.)

There is also a VPM for Palm but it is text based. (I run a copy for interest but don't use it)

For the MS based PDAs there are more programs than I can recount.

J Plan is Ok for diving to 60M and handles Tx. If that's your bag I would endorse it. If you do deeper stuff or RB talk to someone more knowledgable than me!!

Jplan should be 'bog standard' GF and people appear to be diving it to 120m in austrian lakes . It will run on any reasonable palm.

It also does CCR, but then everyone has a VR3 nowadays, so no one needs it !

Personally I have been using VPlanner on the pocket PC (IPAQ 1940) for about a year or so. Main planning done on the PC but the Pocket PC is very handy for when you are on site and the plan has to be changed for whatever reason. I

I used to use Jplan on the Palm I had (until it got lifted out of my pocket last week)and was good for planning dives on.I now have a iPAQ and have vplanner running it has its quirks but is good for carrying out comparisons.

It's not a PDA, but www.jdeco.de runs on an awful lot of mobile phones. You might not have to go to ebay for a PDA.

I agree with Janos.

I've been using JDECO on my mobile and its great program, it does CCR or OC and you can choose between two algorithms. There are also other features like gas top offs.
