I gave up diving in 2000, for no other reason than I had had a couple of bouts of SVT. Although I wanted to continue diving I felt that I would fail any medical because of my SVT history. Up until that point I had been quite an active diver, logging 60 dives in the previous year. I have been on Sotalol ever since the second SVT bout.

My question is was I correct to stop diving at that point? or is there a chance I would have been passed fit by a referee? giving up diving is something I have pretty much regretted ever since.

The only way to get a qualified answer to that question is to seek advice from a Medical referee. No-one else can give you an opinion that is worth anything.

You can find a list of referees at the link below

SVT stands for something like Supra Ventricular Tachachardia. Basically for no reason my heart started beating as fast as it could, and my blood pressure fell to 80 over 40, which of course made me pass out. I was admitted to hospital, and released after a day as fully fit. however it happened again three weeks later. Since I have been on the medication it has stopped.

Take a look at this page, which describes the situation with regard to Arrhythmias (which is what a supra ventricular tachycardia is). You should not that Sotolol belongs to the group of drugs called Beta Blockers.

You really should get in touch with one of the medical referees at the bottom of that page and ask their advice.
