View Full Version : ADP and Bouyancy Workshop
Hi all,
I'm interested in doing the Advanced Decompression Course in Plymouth in April and it seems from the requirements that I need to have completed the Buoyancy Workshop first. The problem is that I'm struggling to find any courses to get that done. Anyone know of any happening in the Southwest (I'm in Bristol).
You don't need to go on a regional SDC for this and can run it in branch if you have an appropriate instructor. Here are the instructor requirements (extracted from the Buoyancy workshop IM):
The lead instructor should be an Open Water Instructor or higher who has been independently assessed and achieved a minimum grade of Gold recorded with BSAC HQ. Any BSAC qualified instructor, or assistant instructor supervised as specified in the DTP, can teach on the workshop.
All instructors should:
• have been previously assessed to a minimum standard of Gold, by an independent instructor who has also achieved the standard of Gold,
before teaching/supervising other students.
For example:
○○ Practical Instructor - Gold
○○ Open Water Instructor - Gold
• be rehearsed and mastered the practical skills prior to teaching on a workshop
• have demonstrated recently that they have maintained the minimum standard. This should be confirmed by an independent instructor who is a minimum of Open Water Instructor who has maintained at least Gold
standard.
Equivalent qualifications that exempt instructors from the initial assessment having already met the ‘Black’ standard includes:
• BSAC Advanced or National Instructors
• Instructors that have obtained the minimum technical grade of BSAC Sports Mixed Gas Diver.

So it looks like the Advanced Instructor in our club could run this course for me even though he's never been on the course himself as he's deemed to have 'Black' status? I guess I'll need to persuade him to set this up then.
But if I'm the only one in our club that wants to do it (because I HAVE to in order to go on the ADP course in April) is there nowhere else I can do it?
Given that this workshop now seems to be a requirement for a number of other courses I was a little surprised not to see loads of them already organised on the events list for next year.
We tried organising one in our branch and no one signed-up to do it!
We ran it in-branch last year and it was very well received, and one of the easier SDCs to run (it's a short theory session plus 2 dives). Almost everyone on the course, including the instructors, made some adjustments to their buoyancy & trim, so well recommended.
We'll be running it again in the next few months, but Lancashire's a bit out of your way!

Hi,
Try contacting your Regional Team who should be able to help. Their detail can be found at: http://www.bsac.com/page.asp?section=1835§ionTitle=South+West+Region

Hi Mark,
Severnside SAC have a few people signed up for the bouyancy workshop, and we are planning to host an advanced nitrox and deco procedures course within the next four months or so.
The DO and training team have not yet decided upon the dates for either of these courses, but as you are only across the road, I would hope that we could squeeze you in ;)
PM me if you are interested, and I can put your name forward / add name it to the list.
Take care
Nick
Thanks Nick, that might be a good way to get it done ;-)

SE Region have one scheduled at Vobster at the end of Feb.
Jeff
Do you have a link to details on that Jeff?
Actually I found it here: http://www.bsac-se.org.uk/SDCPOE.asp
Thanks.
I'm still struggling to find somewhere running the buoyancy workshops. The SouthWest region don't have any scheduled all year, I've emailed about it but no reply yet. The SE region did seem to have session at Vobster but that's fully booked.
So if anyone know of any other courses running in the next couple of months can you let me know as I'd really like to do the ADP course in April but can't until I have the Buoyancy workshop signed off I think.

Who did you contact in the SW region?
Who did you contact in the SW region?
The website had an email address for the SDCO to contact with question.
Anyway, I just found out that the Wales region have a course at NDAC that I could attend so I think we're sort now - thanks.
