Hi All...
On the subject of wings and harness webbing routing, i was wondering how many of you out there use the crotch strap or do you dispense with it.
I'm toying with the idea of removing mine as i feel its a bit of a PITA....

How do you find it a PITA? Don't notice mine...
I got rid of mine. Only put it back on if I'm scootering.

If you don't have a crotch strap you have to do the rig up tight to stop it flopping about.
This was the whole thing that the backplate and one piece harness was invented to avoid.
Tight is bad.

Tight is bad.No you don't. Well I don't anyway. Removing the crotch strap has made no difference at all to me. Took it off about 4 years ago.
Where do I remember hearing this sort of argument before ..... now I remember different brands of ABLJ[1].

Edward
1. If you don't know what it is, find an old fogy in your Branch and spend an evening listening to how good they were and why the new-fangled Stab Jackets would kill you.

I couldnt survive without mine. On the surface its a massive help to stop the set sliding up. Underwater it does stop it moving up as well. I find it very uncomfortable without.
To me its one of the things that makes a wing and harness better than a BCD - the setup doesnt move at all whereas a BCD always rolls, rides up and so on.

Them new ABLJ's is going to kill you, whats wrong with a normal inflatable lifejacket, and you can get one cheap, all you need to do is go on one of them package holidays and look under the aircraft seat
Mine had BEA printed on it.

ive never not used a crotch strap on my wing, but when i had my thin crotch strap, i unclipped it on the surface to get onto a rib and it was horrible,i guess it could work if you tightended everything up, and didnt let your suit compress atall from when you were on the boat, seems silly to get rid of it to me.

I hate to be Cpt. Obvious here, but if your crotch strap is being a PITA, you have unclipped all your gear before sitting down?

Took mine off the wing but then I only dive it with a single 12 and have no worries with that moving around.

Of course the traditionally shaped British diver doesn't need a crotch strap.
The waist belt goes under the massive gut and the rig can't slide up.

I hate to criticise your English terminology but shouldn't "had" read "has"? :D :D :D

I take it, that was aimed at Woz :D
I take it, that was aimed at Woz :DAlso works if you're skinny. I think just avout everyone in our club has removed them with no adverse effects, even the racing snakes.

...who is a very good friend.
Divers are used to tightening their BCD cummerbunds so the tighten their twinset waist straps. If you do that you can get away without a crotch strap.
I would put it the other way round. If you don't have a crotch strap and and your rig doesn't ride up, especially when you surface, it's too tight.
But it's a free country. If you want your waist tight wear it tight.

Doesnt work for me, instantly rides up on the surface without even if ive tightened the waist strap to the extent its uncomfortable.

Your shoulder straps are too loose.
Shoulder straps are the standard 2 fingers through and exactly right so i can reach my valves.
Even with them overly tight (when i couldn't be arsed to alter them from wetsuit to drysuit) the entire twinset rotated bottom away from my back and upwards as soon as i took the crotch strap off.
I've not seen anyone comfortable without one here. Everyone i know that has tried without has put the things back on.
