Hi, Gordon,
I was in Marsalforn this June with a party of 19 divers on a package of transfers, s/c apartments, jeeps and unaccompanied diving from George Vella at Calypso. This was a second visit for many of us, more than that for some, and we are talking already of returning in 2007.
Have a look at the Calypso web-site and discuss with George.

St Andrews Cove in Xlendi.
I used them in Aug 2003 and were very good. All the dives were escorted but very very relaxed about things. I have used some dive centres where the dive leader is checking my gauges every 5 mins.
Decent air fills, cannot recall if they did nitrox.
Xlendi is very family orientated, plenty of restaurants, good pay for the children to swim in.

I can't comment on the others but I can throroughly reccomend George. We had a party of 16 divers, and he really bent over backwards to make our lives easy. This was everything from opening up the shop early / late to servicing one of our groups regs for free when they had a problem.
I think Calypso were £20 extra for the week compared to the other outfit but I would say that this was definitely worth it.

Hi Mike,
What's the situation out there regarding self cert vs. medical, do they accept self cert now?

Hi, Andy,
NO issues at all were raised this June. Self-decs (and my certified form) all accepted OK. Nitrox certification, no problem.
We (not Calypso) made a pig's ear of the Jeep paperwork, but it was sorted pretty quickly. One restaurant failed to deliver, all the rest fantastic.
Happy divers! What more can an organiser ask?
Mike
Cheers all
Just showed my dad the website for calypso divers and he pointed out that he and my mum went to Marsalforn Bay before I was born!!
Its where my mum learnt to dive
Think I might have talked him into a holiday... :D

Went last year, had a superb time with- http://www.0-grav.com/
Polite, competent, knowledgable and friendly staff, great location of dive centre, very flexible and understand "british" divers.
I can't reccomend them enough, a real treat to dive with.

I'd agree that Calypso are fantastic, and George Vella can't do enough for you. I have dived with them several times, they can arrange everything from accommodation to car or jeep hire. They will also arrange to collect you from the ferry from Malta if you ask. Very friendly and helpful.

Hi Gordon,
if you are on Gozo the George Vella at Calypso is you man. On the Maltese mainland Lawrence Spangol at Strand Divers is your man. The North and West Coast of Gozo is some of the best in the World. The higher your diving standard is the more you will get out of it. Enjoy and play safe.

Iain

Hi
I can recommend Frankies in Gozo.We had a party of 14 including 6 kids and they organised everything for us, self catering accomodation with pool, transfers from Malta, 3 jeeps and all the diving we wanted. I'd give Frankies 5 out of 5 for the service we got
Thanks all.
Just got back from a cracking week with George at Calypso.
Would strongly recommend him to anyone considering Gozo.

Ah, names that bring back fond memories of being young and my earliest diving experiences and some bloody good holidays!
I did my OW with Frankie's (instructor was Chris) and the next year did my AOW with Calypso (Chris had changed employers by then to Calypso). George is such a good bloke.
I suddenly have an urge to go back and dive the arches again....... deep sigh!
