A friend of mine has just had a cochlear implant fitted, and was told he could not even swim with this but he was looking on the net there are a varety of views on this subject. A test has been caried out on the implant that states that it will withstand preasures in excess of 4 attmosheres. can anyone shed any light on this subject or are there any divers out there with these implants. Any help will be appreciated, thanks

The simplest advise is to get the opinion of the Otologist who performed the Surgery. Wehter diving is safe will have as much to do with any altered Anatomy and healing as the risk of the implant being damaged.
