searched the forum for a bit but cant really find anything relevent...
I've been to sharm twice, a week at a time, shore based, on day boats, and this year a couple of weeks on a livaboard out of hurghada....done most of the popular sites.
I'm thinking of taking my better half for a week away, shes a newly qualified OD - Qualifying in Gozo in the summer - only done her 5 open water dives to qualify... no other experience so I'm looking at some shore diving, max 20m to get her experience and confidence up, and maybe later in the week a couple of boat dives.....
dont think she'll enjoy the hustle/bustle of sharm, so maybe somewhere a tad quieter? I preferred Hurghada, but that seems still quite busy......
anywhere else I should be looking at with easy but pretty shore dives before we potentially advance to a boat dive or two?
cheers
Nick
I dived out of Safaga and found it a complete revelation. Empty reefs, easy diving, pretty. Walk out of the hotel onto the boat and we sailed with no shouting jetty boys etc.
There is some really good quality local diving out of Sharm that is ideal for new divers. Just bibble and mooch your way along the reefs at 6 - 10 metres and you'll both see a ton of stuff. And shouting captains and jetty boys does add to the 'colour' of your holiday.

Dahab is nice for quiet(ish) easy shore dives and has pretty much no current all the time at most of the usual sites so its certainly suitable.

Have you considered Sharks Bay Umbi??

Decent shore dives, own jetty so you dont get the full hustle of Naama, + you can still go into town for the odd night if you want.

I to would suggest The Hilton Nuweiba. Chris & Noleen, who run the Dive Centre inthat hotel really are very friendly & helpful. And apres dive is very good too.

Another vote for Hilton Nuweiba. Great staff, lovely easy diving, going back in two weeks for the third time!!

Nuweiba is ok for 1 maybe 2 days diving. Its got 4 sites, 5 at a push all very similar on a sandy/silty bottom. Id class it as a weekend break place not a diving holiday sort of place due to that alone.

...and here by road pretty much daily :)
To be fair the setup there is good and well run, they're just hampered by a very small choice of sites for anyone wanting more than a day or 2 diving.
