hi all
booked on a trip to scillys this coming summer with 2 others so and my self looking for accommodation for a week.
can anyone recommend a good b&b youth hostel or similar? preferably cheap we aren't looking for anything fancy just as long as they don't mind divers and diver kit
cheers

probably enquiring at the tourist information office Penzance or St Marys
Theres no such thing as cheap accomodation on the Scillys, everythings expensive there as it has to be shipped across
I was over there 3 weeks ago but we were on a liveaboard mind, but we were blown out :(
Hi
Previous comment about accomodation being expensive is spot on. We go every two years and its a constant probelm to find somewhere that's not booked two years ahead, and is reasonable standard.
We have stayed at Mincarlo Guest House several times www.mincarlo.force9.co.uk/ Bryony & Nick are used to divers and very flexible. By contrast this year at another guest house early breakfasts (8am) were a problem so early starts can be an issue.
I'd now generally go for self catering as a cheaper more flexible option. There's a whole load avaiable on www.simplyscilly.co.uk/site/stay-on-scilly
Who are you diving with?...doing your own thing/Dave or Jo
Diving, both wrecks and scenic can be spectacular. In five trips now I have only been blown out for two days, but strong winds can restrict which sites you can get to
Two key issues:
1) Book early - lots of people return to the Scillies year on year and rebook accommodation when they leave, so you may struggle to find somewhere if you leave it until the last minute.
2) Ask how far the accommodation is from the harbour, as, unless you want to be booking taxis, you'll be getting about by foot. Places in Hughtown won't be a problem, but if you're someway out it might be!
Does the boat skipper not have a list of suggested accommodation?

Firstly which island are you on?
I stayed on St Martins in August. If that island then there is one dive boat and the skipper has self cater accommodation. B&B is unlikely for next summer as mostly booked up by now. I am back in the Scilly Isles next Sept and my accommodation is already booked. :)
The diving can be spactacular-basking sharks, seals, and some of the finest wrecks around. However the water can be cool we had 12c in August.
You will want to consider hiring a container to ship all the dive gear over. So your group will need to work together on this.
