Can anyone help with the following :- I'de like to hear from anyone recently returned from Norway, in particular Narvik on The Jane R and let me know what they thought.
Also any alternative Charter boats/ companies that go.
I assume that kit has to be ferried across North Sea.
Regards Don.

The waters are a similar temperature to the UK at that time of year, i.e.
nice if your in a dry suit, however the visibility on my last trip was a
staggering 30m (as good as my experience diving in Thailand).
The sites are all wreck sites. These wrecks are remarkably well preserved
due to Norwegian policies of no taking of artefacts in Norway and being well
sheltered from the North Sea by the fjords. One wreck lying on it's side
contained an avalanche of wine bottles in one of it's holds all of which
were full. Others had plates and other objects lying around. My favourite
site combined two wrecks lying on top of each other.
On the sea life front, there was a lot of small stuff, nudis, topknots,
anemones, shellfish etc on the wrecks but no great shoals of fish. The tops
of the wrecks were encrusted with life but any self respecting whale would
give the Norwegian coast a wide birth.
Most dives were to around 30m but were on wrecks which sat on their sterns
with their bows at 10m or less. Some deeper dives were also undertaken to
50m on wrecks which continued toward the bottom of the fjords but again had
their bows at 10m. I have still to dive anything larger than some of the
wrecks encountered in Norway. Oxygen is available on the boat should you
wish to dive on Nitrox.
The trip begins and ends in Bergen and is Liveaboard based on the British
boat the Jane R. On my last trip we managed to get approximately 100 miles
north of Bergen to the town of Fluro. Most nights were spent docked at a
Norwegian town or village such as Fedji a remote island where we ate at a
local restaurant then went to the village hall to join the locals at their
disco. There was also a small museum of local history. The final night
culminated in a night in Bergen, a friendly and lively city.

Don try this fella Simon Ravn on s-rav@online.no he's not a charter boat skipper but he can arrange it for you and can put you on a lot of wrecks , and he has dived most of them himself.
